My Carputer install - Verna - Team-BHP

Started this project some 15 days back. Thanks to this forum for the knowledge and T-bhp member Harsh87 for selling some Car PC parts to me for this project. Stil new to upload of pics so please excuse.

Things that are yet to be put/configured are :-

GPS receiver with Sat Guide maps.
OBD II Scanner
Mic to connect with BT phone.
RF Keyboard

And some suggestions from experts here.

The fabrication has not come out that good as I have tried to do it without cutting the rib. Now am planning to take a spare rib and work on that to get it a neat finish.

nice setup! is the cabinet self made? how good is the ventilation for the cabinet as i dont see any fan or vents for the ventilation?

Wow! I'm not much of an ICE fanatic, but this looks neat and different. Definitely want to try out something similar in my Verna!

Could you post details of what components you have used and what would be the approximate cost of each? Also please post technical details.

Yes the case is self made. Vents are drilled and one side of the panel has lesser width (one cm each on top and bottom. Searched for 60mm glass fan. no luck.

Kiran, thats a great install and congtats for the same.
Do post more with your experiences as days go by. I just finished mine. Still nowhere near complete but just go the basic things working ;-).

Board : D945GCLF2 with Atom processor. : Rs. 4500
RAM : Transcend 2 GB : Rs. 1050
HDD : Seagate 320 GB laptop hard drive. Rs. 2300
PSU : 250W M4-ATX : 89$
Screen : Lilliput 7 in : 179$
Wiring, Cables etc : Rs. 2500
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi adapter : Rs. 1000

Let me know if i missed anything

How much time does the Intel D945GCLF2 take to do the POST? ie, from power ON to the time it says "Loading windows" (approximately).

I heard the POST is longish on the Intel Atom boards and wanted to know if any later BIOS revisions corrected it.

So it was you who picked up the display from harsh87,I missed it by a day or two.

Its a JBL 504, Polk audio comps and rear Polk audio db coaxials.

Sorry do not know how to do multiple quote replies, hence so many replies.

Ok the POST is some 40 seconds. This is XP SP3 with IE8 and Media Player 11. Considering this I guess an nlite edition would make the system boot even faster. for nlite I think Shreyasma can throw some light.

Are you sure the POST itself is 40 seconds!!! What I meant by POST (Power ON Self Test) time is the time from actual switch ON to just before windows starts loading. POST time includes the screen where you get to see the Intel logo or the initial diagnostics screen (CPU, RAM, HDD detection and initialisation...)

Or is the 40 seconds mentioned the total time to get to windows desktop without an hourglass cursor?

If your overall startup time is 40 seconds including windows, its pretty fair for that board and the timing can very well be improved by an nLite'd edition of XP. But if your POST itself is 40 seconds, then Intel has not done anything to solve this age old ATOM board POST delays.

PS: for Multi-quotes, use the quote + button and finally the quote button

Another car-pc post. I am loving it.

very neat installation Kiran.
GPS: Go for Globalsat BU-353. Pretty famous on fluxmedia and mp3car. I have the same.
Keyboard: There is a new keyboard on brando site. it has touchpad with keyboard.
Mic: Andrea Soundmax. PureAudio USB-SA External Digital Sound Card
I have n-lited ini file. Stripped down XP to 260 MB. Boot timing is 17-19 Seconds.(After POST to CF screen)

@Digital Vampire. Intel did released few BIOS. but that didnt solve the POST problems. atleast not in my case.
