Hashim, I too have a Gladiator Jun 2006 model, and the original battery is dead after serving for 2.5 years. It's still stuck in the bike. I took it to a shop for charging but the person asked me to discard it and get a new one.
My question is ?
1) how much will a 5ah charger cost?
2) and how much does a 2 teaspoon of Magnesium sulphate will cost. I have to find out from where I can source it.
I have zero technical knowledge. I'll see what I can do.

1.Please don't use 5 Ah charger for charging gladiator battery. Use 12v 1Ah charger. Don't know cost of charger as I built my own. Cost of making was about Rs.100/-

2. Almost free, get it from chemistry lab of any school. I got from my chemistry department lab. Its not a costly stuff. Also 2 spoon quantity was for car battery (as more electrolyte is needed to be prepared), for bike I used slightly more than half teaspoon.

OT: since, you are in Pune try following place

Sandesh Auto,
Opposite Karishma Society,
Karve Nagar, Karve Road, Pune.

This is where I found the Exide Backer 14AH battery, after recommendation from a friend. Its working for ~2yrs now.

Seriously, it is about time others (e.g. Amaron etc) too start making 14AH battery- there are too many REI ES bikes on streets now.

For a 4 year old battery maybe its time to change it. Bubbles as far as I know only indicate that battery is indeed charging and not dead. After the jump start were you able to crank the car, at least once?

Thanks, it is very informative.
Please PM me or post a tutorial about how to make a bike battery charger. My bike is a Pulsar 200 with a stock battery.
Please update soon.

Here is a charger circuit I made using real pictures of components (except transformer as I could not find appropriate photo) so that there is no confusion while making the charger Part numbers are also there in diagram, just get the components and connect them exactly they are in diagram. Using thick copper wires for making connection. Assemble it on a PCB or a piece of plastic then house it in a small voltage stabilizer cabinet. I am sure you can find one dead stabilizer at home and use its cabinet. At the end of wires going to batteery terminal, attach crocodile clips.

This charger is good for most bikes battery 5Ah to 9Ah, if you want quicker charging, use 2Ah transformer. Rest of the components remain same.

Great work Hashim. You definitely deserve a good round of .

Has anybody tried this on inverter batteries yet?

Good work Hashim. Nice circuit diagram.

Do you think the capacitor is really necessary in this case?

A capacitor is used across the DC output of the rectifier circuit to further smooth out the DC voltage created by the full wave rectifier.

Guys, if any one else has tried it, please post the results.
Also, on an inverter battery, does one need to connect it to an outside charger, or is the UPS charger enough to charge the reconditioned battery?

Default What happens to the Mg?

[quote=pramodkumar;1777198]Guys i am no mad scientist but simple class tenth chemistry tells me MgSO4+ H20=H2SO4 when electricity is passed through this solution[quote=pramodkumar;1777198]

I barely managed to clear my Chem exams at school, so please enlighten me.

{MgSO4 + H2O = H2SO4} --> But then what happens to the Mg + 1 radical of Oxygen in it?

@ Hashim, sorry for the OT, just trying to fill a few gaps in my knowledge.

cheers,
R_S

Do I risk overcharging my battery with this type of charger?
Also, what gauge wires do you suggest for making the connections?
