Diet is 60% the battle. Exercise is the remaining 40%. Excess carb intake post 4pm and alcohol/beer are you enemies.

Since you have elderly people going to be using it, a motorised treadmill is the best option.

We retail home as well as commercial equipment. You can visit our store @ gem plaza, infantry road. Either my dad or me are usually around. Alternatively there is a store at Jaynagar 4th Block. This will give you a better idea.

Is any Member in a position to recommend Details of Vendors/ Shops that give excellent Service and Good Rates - Any inputs will be appreciated.

What Brands are supposed to be good?.
As navin sir and a few other members have mentioned, the Proline equipment is also a great line. They have durable machines. Infact I just returned from China today after attending a sporting goods show and Prolines parent manufacturers stall was impressive.

Right about that, if your serious about cardio motorised is the way to go!! Good choice on the equipment Hydra, if you ever need ANY assistance let me know (considering we are the importers and distributors!! )

ps : Some of the guys will advertise their "peak" motor capacity just like ICE equipment. Ask them for them real figures (read continous power as thats what is important)

Mr. Scooby in Bombay treadmill is better because on the road you are breathing the pollution fumes and having to dodge the dogs, garbage and traffic!

And the showroom was 10 minutes away from my house.
How much was it for?

My mom just gave me a call in office after visiting two stores. She says that Chinese/Taiwanese Brands are available for 30-35K. On the other hand, Lodhi Sports which advertises every week in Delhi Times has European Models at around 45K for similar features. They definitely LOOK better - as per her.

Is the Brand/Country of Origin that important or are all of them basically the same.

Actually for the past few years I've been very continual with the neighborhood Gym but now am planning to get a Multigym at home as it is more convenient. I don't need to rush back from office that ways.

The Treadmill is being bought on my sisters insistence who is coming down for a month from the UK. She exercises everyday, alternating between swimming continuously for 1.5 hrs and treadmilling for the same duration.

My Mom is VERY regular with her BRISK morning walks. Dad is slower and not so regular. He would benefit from the Treadmill. Point being - it's coming for the family.

I agree with you totally. But living bang on the Main Road in South Delhi has its own set of problems. Traffic that starts at 7am till 10pm. Dog Poo that one has to dodge. The only good thing is the neighborhood Park which is MASSIVE ... but evenings get too hot and i'm to lazy to walk in the mornings.

Uh, has she booked her tickets already? I think she can save the airfare if she wants to.

No no. As in one day she swims for 1.5 hrs and second day she treadmills for 1.5 hrs.

Mine is a manual model. It ran to just a bit over 10K. Dunno the model no., duh! The entry-level motorized model was about 22K if I'm not mistaken. Basic model with no tilt/incline, and not so powerful motor. The next one was just below 30K, with (motorised?) tilt/incline and programmable work-out presets.

I guess the main thing with these machines is the build-quality, and in the case of the motorised model the electronics also. I'm sure you'll find good European brands for 25-30K above. Your yellow pages and the classified columns should help. Maybe even your local gym guy would have some contacts.

I have a pretty good setup at home: dumbbells, weight-plates upto 50Kg, bars for the barbells, an e-z bar, a chinning bar (DIY) and a dipping (parallel) bar (DIY), a flye machine (DIY again with pulleys and stuff), an incline-press bench (DIY), a regular bench and various other bits and pieces that I'd DIYed. (I used to be really serious back in my college days). The problem is that I haven't used any of this for the past 6 years . Most of it has been moved to the junk room by my Mom who hates seeing the stuff cluttering my room (and my not using any of it). What I'm coming to is you'll most likely keep-up with your regime if you allot a time outside your home for it. Stay at home, and you most likely be posting/reading TBHP during your workout time (If you're like the lazy @$$ I am).

A good thing about this thread is that it has made me think about the good old days, and now I'm going to get back to exercising regularly. Only now I have to wake up early...

Lodhi sports used to be our dealer up until recently.

What you can do is to visit "Grandslam" at GK-2. Mr.Sood there stocks multiple brands (including ours). He would be able to help you out. Mention Anirudh / Madan from Physique India Ltd. as referance.

Regarding the UK , Chinese/Taiwan issue you need to dig deep. Sometimes just the weight stack will be manufactured abroad and the rest of the stuff in Asia. Then it will get branded as made in USA

Coming back to the topic of treadmills, I wanted one too, till I was beaten up by everyone with the walking/jogging argument.... and I have been doing some irregular routines...trust me ...walking in Lalbagh/Cubbon Park on weekends is truly refreshing....no treadmill can substitute that....

Dear Manveet,

Hullo there!

Just got off my treadmill after 35 minutes of huffing & puffing my way to the daily dose of cardio nirvana..

I have "Horizon" - ID 200 (US brand, made in China) motorised treadmill which i bought 1.5 years ago from a Proline store on the way to Gurgaon from mehrauli (the mkt stands closed now). Great treadmill with incline function..Guess I paid around 46-47K with bill & warranty. The motor comes with 5 year warranty & the rest with 2 years warranty..I too live in south delhi & time is premium, can't wait for the treadmill turn at the local gym nor I can go running in the local park! . Apart from this I have invested in a multigym (Taiwanese make for 17-18K) bought from "Grandslam" in GK-2 & an ab-king pro bench for ab crunches..

Looks like I am in the market for a treadmill, again. I sold my last treadmill before moving back to India.

Why do I need the treadmill? I don't want to be chased by the dogs on my street, I don't want to drive to some other place to to run, and finally I want to be able to babysit the kids while running. I need my cardio workout addressed through this. The BWC takes care of my weight training needs.

I see proline is the recommended model, any runner up? I am considering the motored model with elevation control and good support network in my area.

BTW, how do the Treadmills in India deal with power cuts? What happens if the power is cut when I am running at 10-12kmph? Does it slow down smoothly?
