| Senior - BHPian | for gaming a similarly equipped Amd will rip intel from top to bottom. But unfortunately not many systems are available. options for you are acer ferrari 4005-4006 dell xps170 (17inch) Dell E1705 (17inch with dual core) toshiba qosmio for multimedia powerhouse alienware, hypersonic, sager(including pctorque),voodoopc etc are all boutique anufacturers. I wouldnt recommend buying a high-end system from them. A high-end system is bound to crash once in 3-4 months and getting service outside US is a problem. but if you still want to buy one then look at www.alienware.com www.pctorque.com The 9750 from pctorque and similar model from alienware are the most powerful gamers you will find on the globe right now. They come with dual core amd's and amd fx's along with nvidia 7800. But then the weight is also clost to 6-7kgs.

| Go to the US and buy! India is much more expensive. Check out these website they offer the best deals www.dealsofamerica.com www.deals2buy.com You can probably keep checking up everyday to see price drops and order once u find a good deal so that the laptops there before u reach the US, dont make the mistake of buying one from here. As for the processor get the new Intel Centrino DUAL CORE...offers the best battery life.

Ferrari is also good since it has a widescreen display which makes games very enjoyble. More than the processor, your graphics card and RAM speed is what will matter. MAke sure you get a 256MB Graphics card(Latest NVIDIA or ATI, I prefer NVIDIA) 1GB RAM(High speed) 7200rpm HDD

| agree with devarshi - go for a brand which has good *** i would hate something going wrong with my high-end lappie and having to go to some local dealer or drive down a 1000 miles or mailing it to them and getting no reponse for a month i would suggest the dell xps - great performance, and superb ASS in either case, do also look out for some cooling laptop stands as most of them tend to get very very hot after just an hour of high end gaming

| BHPian | Buy from States dude..don't buy from India..much cheaper..I always get all my electronics from States, infact,my dad just bought a new Acer Aspire 5672WLMi notebook with New Intel Centrino Duo processor,120Gig Sata drive,2GB DDR RAM,DVD Multi Writer,15.4inch widescreen,1.7GHz,In built 1.3Meg camera/webcam,bluetooth,plus all standard stuff like Wireless b/g/a,4USB 2.0,Firewire,S-Video,5 in 1 Memory Card reader.. Bought for $1500,which comes to around Rs68,000..I don't think you can get the above config notebook in India for this price(Brand new, with official bill/warranty). Once there was an online only 24 hour offer for a NetGear Wireless B Wi Fi Router for $3 after rebates/savings..immediately paid for it online, picked up in store..! So,buy from there if you have the option. -sr

Pctorque has better service but you would want the better looking alienware with the led brand logo and name. Even the dell xps170 is dull in front of these laptops. Dell is better in looks, company name and size(a bit lighter). But in gaming nothin beats AMD which dell doesnt have. also look at toshiba qosmio. They are pretty good looking with media center OS, nvidia GPU, tv tuner and various display size options. PS:- do you really need a laptop to game? If not then dont go for a powerful dedicated gpu. GPU's in notebooks are pretty hungry for battery power. you can look for something decent like acer ferrari 4005,4006 too. carbon fibre, bluetooth, ferrari logo, bluetooth mouse, lightweight, excellent wsxga display are some of its highlights. for gaming go alienware/pctorque(actually sager notebooks) For media center power go for toshiba qosmio/desll xps for lightweight mobility, looks and sufficient performance look at acer ferrari.

| I will be studying in a university in the USA and a laptop is a must, plus it needs windows XP professional so i thought i could take a gaming laptop(I can start playing if i get bored in class) the alienware laptops can be taken with an extra battery, so i dont think battery backup will be a problem. Will all the games be compatiable with windows XP professional ?? |

yes all games play on xp-proffessional. But I suggest you go for window media center OS. ITs pretty good to play with and the extra multmedia features will make a perfect home theatre. Looks like you like alienware very much. me too. I use alienguise on my compaq and it rocks. look at thisalienware 51 5500 centrino cpu 15.4 wsxga/wuxga/wxga nvidia geforce 6600 256mb/128mb around 3 hours of battery life. If this configuration is fine then looks at the alienware 5500. It has a graphics mode switch. when playing games switch on the nvidia and the games play well. Otherwise switch it to integrated gpu and you can have good battery life. A basic config costs around $1250 so you can have a pretty much fully loaded laptop with a couple of games, Alienware mp3 player, surround headphones, laptop bag and stuff in $2500.alienware aurora 7700 dual core amd/ gaming king amd fx-57 and fx-60 nvidia 7800 17inch wuxga screen 5.1 surround built in raid configs 6-7 kgs to develop your shoulder muscles stay away from laptops with nvidia 6800 as 7800 has both better bettery life and gaming performance. also stay away from sentia as you are not interested in mobile performance. these are small and come with integrated graphics which will dissappoint in games. even Mj-12 doesnt suit your needs as it is developed for multimedia proffessionals for use with quadro graphics.

I don't think laptop is a "MUST" for studying in america, unless ofcourse you are in some design oriented course. My advice would be ditch the laptop, get a sexy desktop at your dorm/apartment. You get tired of laptops after a certain time & I speak from my own experience.Which university are you going to ?
