Since i am a novice in this, wondering what is the catch here considering the huge discount? I am looking for a gaming console for my 8 year old son.
Prices have come down quite a bit for Xbox One and PS4 as they are 3 years old now.
Recently, Xbox one S and PS4 Pro are also launched with bit of tweaked hardware.
So this price is absolutely normal after so many official price cuts over the period.

Are there any game recommendations for a 7-8 year old kid for PS3 with move kit?

I am planning to close a deal on a pre-owned one soon.

Most games I see are all filled with violence which are not suitable in this case.

Also, if I buy say Need For Speed, does the console keep on spinning the disc all the time? Or is it just an initial check as anti-piracy measure and then load from hard disk inside the console?

Hi all,
I want to buy a gaming console for my kids - son 15 yrs, daughter 8 years.
Looked up last few pages in thread and am getting a feeling that games are too much story centric and you need to put lots of time and thought. Very engrossing and interesting - but I am looking for something less complicated.

Will be using it with a 49 inch TV.
Any recommendation from current set of consoles available - PS3/PS4/XBOX or others.
Also, am not sure what the hard disks is for - there are consoles with 500 GB and 1 TB HDs. Are we to download games and keep a copy on a hard-disk or directly play from CD/DVD?
Also, what is the source for getting these games - looking at the prices of some of the games - around 3K, it seems exorbitantly prohibitive. Are than other sources - more cost effective than this.

Pardon me for novice questions - but have not experienced gaming so far due to various reasons and hope this group will offer best possible advise.

Regards
JLS

You're placed in an interesting conundrum. I purchased the PS4 from BestBuy in the US last week, and my kids are loving it, so to speak. This came with the 'Uncharted 4: A Thief's End' and also ended up purchasing Marvel Superheroes and Need for Speed Rivals. Amongst these games, the Marvel Superheroes is a 2 player game and doesn't need online play. This is critical to note as I had earlier purchased the 'Plants v/s Zombies' Game which needed complete online play- just don't understand the rationale.
Re:your other query, mine is the PS4 Slim and it was 500GB. We ought to save the games to the system(some take huge memory like the Uncharted one which takes a whopping 50 GB)- this is necessary to play from the PS4 console.

On your other query on getting these games, please opt for a PlayStation Plus membership- it comes with 2 free games every month, and is circa 350 INR every month. You may also choose to visit the PlayStation Store and purchase games(there are loads of deals).

Furthermore, the PlayStation VR(Virtual Reality) device that gets launched in 2 weeks is stated to be ground-breaking and better than most of its competitors.

Hope this helps in your buying decision.PC & Console games - Discussion Thread-imageuploadedbyteambhp1475855323.440708.jpg

Hi All,

I hope you're well.

I wanted some quick advise/suggestions from the experts and enthusiasts here.

I have just bought a new XBOX ONE S 1 TB from the US and my friend is bringing it back for me next week. I am new to the gaming world but I have always wanted to take this plunge and after a run in with FORZA 6, I have bought the same.

Some of my questions are :

1. What adaptations to I have to do to play the US based console in India ? Do i need a converter for the Voltage difference ?

little confused here because most electronics these days are made to work on both power ratings. Kindly advise.

2. I am also buying a couple of games such as Forza 6, GTA 5 etc. Will these work if I have a India Microsoft account

3. Will i be able to play all games purchased from the US seamlessly ? And also will i be able to download the digital copies of the games available from amazon sitting in india ?

4. What are the other things should I note before I get started.

I was reading a previous post of the power brick failure when connected to the Indian voltage and got me thinking.

Appreciate all responses.

1. Check the input voltage on your power brick when the console arrives, to be sure. You might need a step down transformer to use the US console here.

2. The games will work just fine, they aren't region locked.

3. Yes and yes, though you may as well just download them off Live's Indian servers.

4. Nothing, really, enjoy the console when you get it. Just be sure to set up your Live account in India and you will not have any issues.

Thank you for your response.

Just one subsequent question, The Xbox one s does not have a power brick its built in. So how do we check the power ratings ? Dont you think it should be compatible to 220 V like most other gadgets ?

You'd need to check the back plate of the Xbox directly to be sure the input voltage is compatible with ours. My Xbox One from the USA runs off a step down transformer.

It's mostly gadgets that are meant to travel that usually come with universal voltage capability.

Edit: If you have an old SSD spare, use it as an external drive to have fast access to your games to improve load times. Make sure you get a USB 3 cable for it or it won't run at full speed.

The rear of the Xbox One S indicates it takes India's 240V/50Hz in addition to the US's 100V/60Hz. You might still want to check with Microsoft support or look at Xbox forums to be sure before plugging it in.

EDIT: This Reddit page confirms the Xbox One S is multi-voltage, so you should be fine.

There's no need to call Microsoft if the console you get says it's 100-240V. Just make sure you check the piece you get, because consoles bought in one territory *may* differ from those sold in other countries, wrt power supply, better safe than sorry.

Just keep in mind the DLC is region locked for games. So if you buy Indian games in discs and have an American Microsoft account, your American account bought DLC will not work with an Indian disc. Applies to PSN and XBOX LIVE as far as I know.

How do you mean? I have bought multiple games abroad and installed them on an Indian account with Indian account bought DLC with no issues at all. Where the disc is bought has no bearing on anything since the discs are not region locked. If you mean you can't transfer DLC from one region to another, that I'm not sure about, but it still has nothing to do with where your discs are bought from.

Would be best not to mess around with having a US based account if you're based here, though, because they only allow you to change your account location once every so many months.

This pertains to Xbox One, not 360.

Hi Guys, i have a similar query like kbk_75 except that it is for the PS4 Slim.

I have bought the Ps4 Slim edition which is basically US import version bought from Bangkok. The query is regarding the Voltage. The box reads as power values from 100-240 V. Will it be fine to directly plug in India or do i need a step down converter?

Appreciate any first hand experiences before i plug it in
