Canon 550D with standard kit lens 18-55mm around 34k INR
Nikon D5100 with standard kit lens 18-55mm around 39k INR
Nikon D90 with 18-105mm standard kit lens around 57k which i really like but it is a little out of my budget. D90 body though retails for 42K which i find very interesting - but alas there is no good quality lens at that price.

The D1500 has no built in auto focus so i will be stuck with buying expensive AF-S lenses which is why i am not too keen on this entry level nikon.
As far as I know, neither does the Canon 1100D nor the 550D. Both of them require lenses with auto-focus motors in them, so this shouldn't be a problem endemic to the D5100, but rather, a more general limitation to cameras at this price point. Please correct me if I'm wrong; I will then have to read up further to get that clarified for myself.

That's insanely low, of course! However, I just checked it out and it looks like a more reasonable 72k+ on their website.

Is Sep 13 some kind of Nikon event?
Yes, Nikon is planning to discontinue the D7000 and in many markets on the Nikon websites (country specific), it is marked as discontinued - check on Nikonrumors for more info.
I doubt that they would keep both the D7000 and the d400 together as they are too close in pricing and they will need to reduce complexity in their range. So D400 will most likely replace D7000.

Sep 13 is marked as an important announcement from Nikon to media and everyone is expect D600 at least to be announced. This is also the pre-event buildup to the Photokina event (the largest Photography event) in Cologne from Sep 18-23 where Nikon is going to display these products for the first time.

As much as I appreciate your enthusiasm to help a fellow t-bhpian out, I'd like to request you to please verify the information before you post. The gentleman selling on JJMPF is not a mod on that forum. Thanks!

On the similar lines Pentax has recently discontined K-5. Incidently both the cameras were launched at the same time using the same Sony sensor.

Oops.sorry for that.I messed up the link.was checking out d7000 listings and one of them was from a mod.

My point was just to show what's available. The particular listing was sold already.

I don't mean to recommend any seller guys. Just do your due diligence.
There may be better deals there.just meant to point interested members to the best photography forums in india.

Ill refrain from posting any more listings and furthur comments on the matter. I think my points ' been made.

That news was like a bomb (D7000 discontinuing) so I checked it and it is actually the much older D700 that is being discontinued. As per Nikonrumors somebody at Amazon goofed up with the zeros hence the confusion.

D7000 only came in 2010 and is relatively new to be discontinued so soon. Even the much older D90 that it replaced is still in the market. I've read D7000 was so successful that it was sold out for months when it came!

I'd still wait for the announcements on Sep 13 and for the Photokina. Lets hope they announce the D400 and reduce price of D7000 to sub 50k levels

Nikon USA still shows D7000 as an available model. But I've noticed that Amazon has slashed the price by $200. Right now this model is priced at $996.

Thanks,
Jose

Nikon D800's sensor - made by Sony?

I guess the upcoming A99 will sport the same sensor.

Some more updates on the D600 from Nikon Rumors:
http://nikonrumors.com/2012/08/30/up...px/#more-44016

"The release probability of the Nikon D600 for Photokina is now at 99%. Here is an updated list of the specifications (new additions in bold):

Very small and lightweight body
16 bit image processing
Expeed 3 processor
Maximum video recording: 30 minutes
Built-in mic
19 scene modes
Magnesium alloy only on top and back only
Maximum shutter speed of 1/4000
Shutter life: 150,000 cycles (the D800 is rated for 200,000 cycles)
Previously reported Nikon D600 specs:

24.7MP full frame sensor
Weight: 760g (850g with battery and memory cards), the D800 weights 900g
3.2" LCD with 921K dot with ambient sensor control
HDMI output
Video compression: H264/MPEG-4
Full HD with 30p, 25p, 24p, HD with 60p, 50p, 30p, 25p
Viewfinder coverage: 100%
The Nikon D600 will have built-in AF motor
The body most probably will be weather sealed
The D600 will not have built-in GPS
ISO range: 100-6400 (with Lo-1 ISO 50 and Hi-2 ISO 25,600)
39 AF points (with an option of 11 AF points), 9 cross-type AF points
AF face detection
Exposure compensation: 5 EV (same as the D800)
The D600 will probably use the EN-EL15 rechargeable Li-ion battery
5 fps (same as the D700, the D800 has 4fps)
2 SD card slots with Eye-fi support
Build-in retouching images functionality
Built-in flash with sync speed of 1/250s
Two user settings: U1 and U2
Fn button
Auto DX crop mode
In-camera RAW editor
Built in time-lapse functionality
Build-in HDR
New external battery grip
Internal AF motor
The price of the D600 is rumored to be very low - maybe as low as $1500
Announcement before Photokina (September 2012)"

The price is expected to be below $1500! That will be a killer price point and bound to rack up good volume and maybe even see many buyers moving to D600 instead of the D800 option.

Behemoth

Wow, some A99 spy shots!

Camera was being tested by a national geographic photographer.

http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/is-that-the-a99/

They seem to have ditched the minolta hotshoe and adopted the standard one for good!

EDIT: Some A99 video specifications (rumored)

It almost sounds too good to be true:
1) AVCHD2.0 format ,below 1080p it have the Bit rate of 50Mpbs,4:2:2Sampling (other model coming next year has 4:2:0)
2) 1080P with the highest 120fps,at 720P, the highest is 240FPS
3) MP4 format still 35Mbps
4) center focus all the lens can use the biggest Aperture. others still F3.5
5) except P model, A,S model can also auto-focus but M model still MF
6) 4 times zoom in during 1080P can be captured
7) multi-recording can take a 2.4Megapixels during recording
8.) HDMI can be Non-destructive Output new shoe can fit the wireless(bluetooth) mic
9) except the high speed model, other model Maximum recording time is 29min 59s
10) Time code support
