it wont be apt to say acer's service quality is not comparable to Hp-Compaq. there's nothing really much different between the two.

Toshiba and Asus have great service backup. And Panasonic's service backup just plain rocks.

Regarding the best deals, here in hyderabad we the metro stores which give good deals. there are metro stores else where in the country. i think they are in banglore, mumbai, pune,... its worth checking there. only thing is you should be a registered businessman with holding a metro card or you should go along with a card holder.

any other options ?
Even I am looking for something similar, usage is net browsing, movies, music and some basic word processing(in that order). I had been to a lenovo showroom today, the dealer dint have the same model but had the one with c2d procy(rest all same) i liked the build quality and all, so am considering it. I dont need any OS bundled(planning to use Ubuntu), dont care about battery back up or weight. Is there any other model you guys recommend? I think there is a similar model from Acer for same money(the less than 20k model doesnt have dvd writer). Also how much for 1GB ram? the dealer said 1.5k for it. guess it will be cheaper outside right?

Default Small/light weight laptop under 70k ?

Hey guys , i want to buy a good laptop under 70k . The models that i 've shortlisted are the Dell XPS 1330 and HP Pavilion tx1302 tablet ...

The laptop will mostly be used outdoors while traveling ...

My criterias :

Small and lightweight(screen less then 13 or 13 inch)
Features
Good battery life
Good Service , warranty

The Dell XPS1330 (after customisation) costs Rs. 68k whereas the HP tx1302 will cost 62k approx .

Which one amongst these you suggest ?
Any other brand/model that i am missing out ?

Thanks in adv .

1.3 - 1.5K for 1 GB RAM depending upon the company and speed (333 / 667 MHZ)

Thanks lowbassmaker . I checked out the HP today and decided against it cos the HP tx1301 and 1302au models are now Discontinued . The new series is Tx2001 and 2002 and above all i was told that the battery backup is quite poor and as you rightly mentioned dell is better than HP and if im right C2D is far better than AMD ...

Howz the inspiron series in Dell ,any other Brand/model recommended ?

thanks .

I had purchased HP 6516TX NoteBook 4 months back based on what HP assured as wireless head set gift (they say its worth more than 5000/-) today I received waited for 3 months after I sent them DD and documents to process the free gift.

Its quality is very good works around 30 feet distance from the laptop.

Regards,

Ravi.

Hey anybody have any idea about the lenovo g400 33q(cel 1.73ghz / 512MB/ 80GB/ 14.1" / dvd writer)? I'm getting it at 23k all inclusive(I plan to run linux only, for net and movies). Heard some negative things about lenovo after sales service and build quality generally, I stay in Bangalore and plan to use it for another 1.5yrs at the most. The alternative I am considering is compaq c702tu(cel 1.86ghz / 512MB/ 80GB / 15.4"/ dvd writer). Need suggestions asap.

I suggest Desktop instead of laptop for watching movies, Best top notch configured assembled desktop with 4 GB RAM 500 gb SATA Hard Disk with 19 inch lcd monitor and intel original motherboad/core 2 duo processor with dolby sound with speareks you can get it for 30,000/- It can last for 10 years!

We have purchased many such computers from the person I know personally who takes care of entire hard ware maintanence in my office.

About Lenovo its like low cost laptop of IBM. Like HP and Compaq. HP Laptops are targeted for business/corporates where as compaq laptops are for students and home office purpose.

Lenovo is good but in Bangalore I highly recomand HP or Compaq! because service is very easy and cheap too.

Acer on other side has more problems than Lenovo but to be very frank any brand is one and the same its matter of peice we get and power and environment the way we handle the unit.

I own 2 2001 make laptops baught from USA both compaq still going very strong, recently had couple of service (total cost 7000/-), 4 months back I baught HP 6516tx and i can see with vista its very good performer.

If OS is vista I suggest we should have 2gb ram and core 2 duo processor. Linux can run on low end laptops. Movies on low end laptop might make results slowly sometimes.

If you need PC which you need to carry then laptop makes sense otherwise desktop have better resale value than laptop and low end laptops are not good, If you are buying laptop I suggest buy highend Laptop.

Regards,

Ravi.

I did not understand your context. In which way. Life or future proof.

thanks ravibhat, I already have a c2d based desktop with a 19" crt, wanted a second pc so was considering a laptop and budget isn't so high that i can include a 19-22" LCD from dell or something. so was considering either a lenovo g400 33q or compaq c733tu, as I plan to run linux. I am planning to add 1gb RAM to it so movies wont be much of a problem(no hd content either)
