I use EVDO; the average up-time is not great - about 90%. But when it works, it works great; I get speeds of more than 300 kbps all the time, and it goes upto 1 mbps in night.

Guys, let me trouble you'll once again.

I need to pick up a fast data card. Right now I have three internet connections. One at home at two where I work in different places.
Home and one place I have wi fi from BSNL. The other is wired.

Now I spoke to TATA photon and they said their service is unavailable in Coonoor and I need to get it from Coimbatore. Also the speed will go down from 31.MBPS to 153KBPS.

So it means I should stay put with the connections I have as of now and make the wired also wifi. Are there any other options? Please understand that mine is a small town called Coonoor, near Ooty.

Installing a WiFi router where you have Wire-line is best option. In fact if all three places are covered with some sort of broadband connectivity you actually do not need Photon+ unless you are on move.

153 Kbps means that EVDO coverage is not there in your area , Probably if you have already invested in photon you can use it when you are traveling.

Please check with BSNL as well BSNL is also offering EVDO with much cheaper rates then Tata ( Photon+) or reliance.

I thought I just stick with one data card and surrender all the wifi connections. But nothing is fast enough in comparison with BSNL.

Will check with BSNL regarding EVDO. I spoke to them this morning and asked if they have any data cards and they did not offer this service here.

You can never be sure if you got right answer , Here in Bangalore many of the BSNL people do not know what is EVDO and say no initially and if you use some other words like high speed wireless internet at 3.1 mbps blah .. blah. then they spill the beans.
They are offering USB dongle for EVDO in many cities.

BSNL was the first to come out with the EVDO service in india, after that everyone adopted. i am myself a EVDO user & hardly face nay problems, The download speed and connectivity is also very reliable. Even my friend owns a unofficial BSNL Evdo forum. Its one of the best services i have used till date.
