Default Google Maps on Mobile

Today I tried the Google Mobile Maps. The app can be downloaded on to a compatible phone from http://www.google.com/gmm. I found it quite amazing especially with its option of switching to satellite images as well. Zoomed in on Bangalore to see the roads and Buildings around the city. Very cool.

Left me wondering if there are any mobile phones in the market with built in GPS receivers. It would be amazing if the Google Mobile Maps could take the location coordinates from the GPS receiver and navigate to the location on the maps.

Hi Sharathjeppu,

The only "phone" with built in GPS that i have heard of is the HP hw6515, which is more of a pda-phone.

this application works on PDA or smartphones,,,,
this site has a link of support mobiles on which it works
for GPS it is not necessary to have GPS inbuilt
one can purchase GPS Bluetooth device from third party and can integerate while travelling....
Hey I dont have GPRS on my N80 if anybody can download and send me the link I will transfer to my mobile through buetooth

I use this phone, which runs WindowsMobile 2003SE.. However, the google maps application does not install at all..

also, from Google maps FAQ, http://www.google.com/gmm/faq.html,

Does Google Maps use GPS to figure out where I am?
Google Maps doesn't use any GPS technology, even if your phone has a built in GPS location device.

I belive you need google earth plus to use GPS functionalities (not sure if it's real time).

i haven't seen this app, but it would be great if they had writen it in java, that would mean runing on any phone, irrespective of platform.

regd GPS phones, motorola has a numbers of GPS phones i believe.

One of my friends has written a J2ME mapping application that connects to a bluetooth GPS called GPSWatch. More details on: http://www.i10n.com/
