Hey Team,

Been using a Palm since the last couple of years. Time for an upgrade.

In the whereabouts of 25 - 30 grand, whats the best PDA this money can buy?

Requirements:

1. Ease of use. Most important.
2. Reliability. And Uptime.
3. Hotsyncing with my laptop via IR (though I am pretty sure this is standard fare)

Thanks much in advance

hmmm the tungsten T3 is very good. the T5 is on its way soon i guess. if u want phone and pda combo with light weight the imate JAM is a very nice option i love it a lot. the usual xda 2 and imate pda2k are still the options. palm zire one is decent. these all i have tried used so i can say.

am using O2's Xphone. has most of the features of the xda2, but with keypad, no stylus and smaller screen. has a lot of glitches, but features are just too good. gotten the software upgraded from singapore 2 months back. lots of glitches are cleared now.

uses the windows OS, so i guess hangs and crashes are included in the package.

heard blackberry is superb. now available from airtel.

i am going to wait for Nokia's 9300 (smaller version of 9500 communicator).

if u dont want a pda phone, Palm makes the best pda's.

If you don't mind moving to Pocket PC from Palm OS and can continue to live with seperate phone and PDA, I recommend Dell AXim. They are the cheapest PocketPCs and value for money. The cheapest one is $200 and you will get a very good spec one for around $300-330. They are very sleek too.

I have Axim X5 which is obsolete by now. I paid $200 for it more than an year back. Mine is the size of a brick, but the newer models are very sleek. There is a very good site for Axim Axim Site.

Even my older model can sync with my laptop using IR. The new Axims come with bluetooth and wlan.

I also moved from Palm OS to Pocket PC, I had a Handspring PDA. Pocket PC among many other input options also has the Graphiti of Palm OS, making things easier for Palm OS users. The applications are more user friendly. Though it may take some extra effort in getting insync with the new PDA, it is fun. It also comes with Windows Media player for PocketPC along with MS Word and Excel. It can play MP3, WMA and even movies. If ever the system hangs up, a soft reset will make the piece running in less than 10 seconds. BTW, there is no booting like in it's bigger brother, desktop windows. The syncing with Outlook is more seamless, MS never fails in integrating it's own products. If you are MS Money user like me, you can sync that too. Unlike Palm OS's PDB format (That was the only format Palm OS supported during v3 days), you can sync all file formats. I maintain my car log in an Excel sheet in PDA and sync it with my laptop. But there are not many free softwares avaliable for Pocket PC like for Palm.

Dell does not see through shops or third party retailer. They sell on either their own online shop Dell or on the telephone.

If you also want support in India, HP iPAQ is the way to go. They started selling iPAQs in India.

You will never be disappointed either by Dell or MS Pocket PC. Happy computing.

Note: I am not associated with Dell or MS apart from being a Dell Axim user and a MS technologies developer.

With ya on that, BikerSG.

Checked out the HP IPAQ 4350 yesterday. Though its well rated by the critics, and has some sweet features....that ghastly keyboard kills the look.

Kinda zeroing in on a T3. Thanks Jesal for that model headsup.

Appreciate your suggestions

I've had a T3 for over a year. very nice. BTW few laptops have IR so u should look at hotsync via bluetooth instead. still i prefer the old fashioned USB hotsync. becuase if your loose connection during hotsync for whatever reason bad things happen. also i understand the the palm requires external power (in cradle) to hotsync and cannot do so on battery power.
