Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

@Souljah - the website shows the standard HD STB for around 2600/- , which by the way is the same one i picked up a few months back.
Since myavu paid rs 4444/- it is not clear if its just for the STB or with a full year subscription, he could have picked up a 3 month plan or a 6 month which then leaves the cost of the STB to be more than the 2600/- advertised on their website.
Which would then imply that the box has to be different.
As for Details, what size hdd is provided , does it have an optical out , does it come with a universal remote

I guess till myavu post a reply its just assumptions we can go by.

Aah ok, I get the ambiguity. Going by your assumption and string of logic yes, it could be different but TataSky does not yet have an HD+ box available. There is only one HD box launched at the same price of 2600INR, anything else that Myavu paid is towards subscription.

I payed for normal HD Box (HD+ not available as of now).

Cost breakup - 2599(HD STB) + 1845(Supreme Pack for 12 months) = 4444

Once installed, will go for Add-ons Eng News pack-20 + Eng Movie pack-45 + Eng Entertainment pack-35 + Sports1-65 + HD gold Pack1-30 = 195. So per month charges will be 349.

Installation is scheduled for tomorrow morning. Will update more after that.

I need to get non-hd dth as of now.

had been using airtel box for long, but now its running very slow. takes ages to power up and even switching channels is taking lots of time.
Will go for airtel, only if these issues are not there on latest box.

choices of channels:
1. old hindi movies - zee classic and likes
2. english movies - wb, hbo, star movies, z-mgm, s-pix
3. sports- all
4. kids channel- only disney and pogo.
5. lifestyle: ndtv good time and tlc
6. science: discovery, history, animal planet.
7. marathi regional.
8. music: 9xm, vh1, b4u

no daily soaps

is there any site which helps in comparing packages or shows latest deals?

Just noticed that the "annoying" BIGTV logo is gone. Today morning when switched on, it did a update, and then the logo is gayab.

Still it has the Reliance logo. But its much better than the previous ones.

Sorry for being OT.
Guys will be moving to UK soon for a short trm assignment of 6 months. Need to know which DTH should I look for esp for some Indian Channels atleast and for the world cup. I browsed through the Sky TV and Virgin TV websites, found that only 5-6 Indian channels are offered. Any other provider I should look for.

BTW the SKY TV charges are quite hefty.

I got the software update yesterday too and the logo has change.

Reliance seems to have rebranded it's DTH service and removed the 'BIG' brand. It will not be under Reliance Digital.

At last TataSky HD successfully installed. Blown away with the clarity.

Even normal SD channels are more sharper and vibrant. (HDMI impact)

Expecting ESPN STAR to telecast F1 in HD.

Now I need to shift existing Sun Direct to Gurgaon. As per their (SUN's) standard it will take another six months.

I am using Tata Sky (normal STB). I want to upgrade to a HD and DVR box. Is it possible with a single STB? Are there any plans of such a launch in near future?

HD is top priority compared to DVR as I am getting annoyed with the fact that have invested Money in Sony Bravia and not giving my Bravia the input it deserves.

But HD+DVR would be the ideal combination. Suggestions are welcome.

@autocop - as mentioned in this thread there is a possibility of Tatasky coming out with a HDDVR but not sure when.

@Vinu - glad to hear the HD STB is up and working and you are enjoying it.

Does anyone know when MoviesNow will be available on DTH, especially Tatasky. Moviesnow put an add in the paper stating they are gaining a share rapidly but no mention when they would be available on HD DTH service. The wait is getting to me

Today the engineers visited to install the HD box. Pretty slick, yet to activate the HD pack will post a review later.

The engineer said HD+ boxes are already shipping but they are not yet accepting the bookings for the same, no idea as to when they will launch it.

Since June only few channels available. Since September filed many complaints with CC for realigning the Dish. No use, nobody turned up yet. Stopped recharging from Dec 14th. Contacted local SUN Direct distributor. He is asking Rs.350/- for realigning the Dish when the home screen of STB says it's absolutely free. We are ready to shell out max 150/-.

Patiently waiting for TataSky HD.

I am also having the same problem, after complaining 4-5 times and almost 3 months passed no one turned up. Is there any guide available to realign the dish, I could find the procedures to tune the settop box, but at which angle the dish should be realigned.

If this doesn't work out then have plans to move to Airtel or Tatasky (already have a Tatasky, so can go for multiroom subscription). But Sun TV is providing HD channels for some of the regional channels, so confused either to go with HD or SD, or switch to HD once lot of channels are coming in.

The best option for you would be to find a local technician who has experience in setting up dishes. It's not a real complicated stuff IMO. If you want HD in TN, then SUN is probably the best and cost effective set up as of now. I chose Airtel HD in BLR only because of SUN DTHs customer service issues. Since you already have it, try to get it fixed locally.
