Recorded content cannot be copied to external sources as its hardware encrypted and can be de crypt only while playing, but theres a catch as you can record the content while playing to other media recorders like Media center PC, Handycame via HDMI or AV input.
And yes theres lots of difference between sky+ and sky+HD due to HDMI interface, colors are more richer even sharpness is better for SD channels and anyways sky+ cant play HD channels which is extra + with sky HD+.

Hi folks,

I see most people vouching for Tata Sky HD, but very few for Dish TV HD. Why is that? I want suggestions as I want to upgrade my Dish TV to the HD one (either Tata Sky or Dish TV HD).

Friends,
I have a question to all members using TATA Sky & TATA Sky Plus (not to the HD users). Hope few of the members uses Active Sports in TATA Sky. How is the picture quality in Active Sports. Are the video sharp. In my Tata Sky Plus box, the Live video feed in the Active Sports are not very sharp and it gives strain in the eyes If I watch it for few minutes. Because of this, I cannot enjoy the other camera angle feed (available for India matches).
I raised the complaint to TATA sky & engineer came to check it. But he said, this is the best feed quality I can receive in Active Sports.

Earlier (means 2 yrs back) the feed in Active Sports were really good but this time its not.

Airtel is migrating to SES-7 satellite and will be adding more channels (SD/HD) shortly. From today, all new installations will be on SES-7 satellite and not on Insat-4CR. Existing customers will be migrated very shortly.

I got free DishTV HD connection along with my Samsung Full HD LED TV. Installation is scheduled today afternoon and will check the quality and update here.

Dish TV says they have many HD channels, but most of them are SD contents upscaled to HD resolution. How come "Zee Cinema" would telecast old movie in HD format which itself recorded with very old camera.

There are few channels like Animal Planet, National Geographic, Discovery, Start Sports, Movies Now are HD channels available. What are other True HD channels available?

Well how many movies are shot using digital camera now a days? They have to convert even new movies to digital while broadcasting and the source (analog) should be good enough to convert to HD format.

Even conversion won't help since the source is not shot in high quality. Until you shoot in HD, you wont get HD Quality even if the channel beamed is in HD.

Regarding movie shooting, I believe shooting must be done at much higher resolutions and that HD (even 1080p) would look BAD if projected on a screen as big as in movie theaters.

Quick net search reveals that films on which recording is done are scanned at 4K-5K resolution of horizontal lines. By the time it reaches theaters it is still equivalent to about 2K lines or (good theaters). Digital projectors for theater use "start with" 2K resolution, which is much higher than 1080p, leave alone 720p and SD!

@vinay.pillai...Yes the video feed in Active sports is pretty average. I'm using Tata sky HD and the quality is superb in live HD telecast of the matches. But when i switch to active sports all the videos and camera modes are pretty average in terms of resolution and quality.
