F-prot is actually one of the "lightest" anti-viruses in existence!

In fact the lightest is Dr. Web. It had a < 1 MB footprint when I last used it!! AFAIK, there is no other AV which is this light on system resources. I have used Dr. web on a 200 MHz processor with 32 Mb Ram... and it still worked without slowing down the comp!

F-prot is a close second.

Both are decent at catching viruses... but might not be the best. But they won't slow down your comp at all... in fact you wont even notice them!! Dr. Web is better at detection, amongst the two.

Mc Afee and Norton are amongst the worst I'v tried, when it comes to hogging system resources. The latest version of Norton is quite the opposite though.

I however currently use Kaspersky on my main comp @home.

^^^When I last tried both, Antivir was less intensive on system resources. Its better at detection too!

AntiVir has great detection rate and is light too. Its just taking 10MB my side.

I use Antivir combined with Comodo + Windows Defender. Works like charm. As good as Kaspersky Internet Security.

Guys,

If you had some bad experience with Norton Anti-Virus and that is stopping you to buy its new version then just try "Norton Internet Security 2009".

I am using in my home Desktop from last 2 months, it's superb!,

Instead of Norton Internet Security Use Symantec EndPoint

Way better.

I was using Avast for the last 2 years combined with Zone alarm, however recently I found that AVG has come up with an internet suit combined with antivirus & Fire wall. Its is quite well priced & does not tax the PC. There are no performance degradations which is usually associated with Norton/Macafee.

Default Best Anti Virus Solution for a Small Business

Which amongst the host of Anti Virus solutions out there is the best bet for my business? Some details about us:

1. Roughly about 25 Systems (10 today - will grow)
2. All on Windows
3. Plan to set up a Windows server which connects to all these systems and forces down the updates, upgrades etc. Will have a firewall. In short, will not allow the sub-systems to do anything directly themselves.

In terms of the best bet, I mean:

1. Does not hog system resources (though since I will install only on the server, will this still be a pain point?)
2. Is VFM
3. Is good at catching those viruses!
4. Does it include anti-spam as well? Plan to get a majority of my guys on Outlook express through the Windows Suite.

Would love to hear your opinions and thoughts. I dont want to move ahead to firm up our IT infrastructure until I get a good solution to this.

In the free Avast Home Edition, what should the VRDB be set to --
1. Generate VRDB Now
2. Generate VRDB when computer is idle
3. Generate VRDB only when screensaver is running (currently selected)
Should the VRDB 'i' icon be merged with the avast 'a' icon?

Does Avast automatically check and download updates daily?

Are any changes in settings recommended from what they were, when it was being installed?
