Dont buy iball. I don't trust them enough for speakers, let alone monitors. Try and get a monitor amongst Dell,Viewsonic,Benq,Phillips. These are the only monitor brands. The rest wont last that long. 7850 can do 1080P at playable rates but to truly enjoy gaming, i would recommend a mid sized monitor with 1650x1050 resolution. For the motherboard, i would advise getting an Asus board for warranty issues. mine was replaced with a new board when i had an issue really long back.

I chose iball after a friend, who has a year old iball monitor was very happy with it... the dell, benq etc were too expensive( i already exceeded my budget by getting the iball )

I was on a 50k budget so getting a dell monitor, Asus mobo would seriously cross it.
Msi has good service in goa.

Well, If thats the case then its fine . The configuration by itself is good so you wont have issues with performance.

a failed hdd is slightly hard to detect if its S.M.A.R.T status says "ok" in the bios and at the same time, it gets id'ed by the bios since it is able to communicate with the controller of the HDD.

The configuration listed on #3 and #4 are very similar. With DDR3 memory available really cheap, you can propably get 4Gb for Rs 1250-1450/-
You can get #4 and addin an extra Rs 1250/- for the extra RAM. That aside, why not go the assembled PC way? You can get a powerful configuration and a machine you can customize the way you like it.

Here is a competent configuration:

i3 - 3220 : 3.3Ghz with 3mb L3 cache - 6900/-
Asus P8H77-M LE Motherboard (USB3/HybridGraphics) -7400/-
Corsair DDR3 Memory 4GB - 1333MHz 1400/-
PC cabinet 1850-2100/-
SMPS Zebronics 500W or Corsair 450W - 2150/- or 2350/-
Samsung/Benq/Viewsonic LED Monitor- 5ms resp- 7500/-
DVD-RAM drive 850/-
HDD: 500Gb/1TB 3500-5k

Total:Rs 33500 (price calculated with the highest listed alternative).

Add in a decent graphics card: Rs 6k= Rs 39500
The above setup can handle mid level gaming and multimedia as well.

Cheers.

Thanks Arch for helping me out but I'm looking in for the All-in-One type rather than the conventional setup which I already have at home and a little space constraint too. Budget that I put on is max Rs. 35000/-So out the 4 configuration which one can I choose? No. 3 or No.4?

Cheers,
Anurag.

If you know how to change your PC's ram, get 4, since you can invest another 500 bucks and get 4gb of Ram more. If you are looking for a buy,fit and forget, buy 3.

Going to get a Thinkpad W530 with i7 quad core extreme, 16GB soon. This is going to be a company refresh, not my own notebook, but excited to get my hands on it and see how it performs with a couple of virtual machines and how the FHD display performs. Has anyone got any experience with this or W520 who can share how it works! I know it all depends on the requirements and what are you going to use it for, it'll be good to hear from some power users using either this one or W520.

I have optiplex 3010, 9010, vostro 270 with similar specs and i would suggest that since its working great so far.

With regards to your second config, i have Dell vostro 470 that has 3rd gen i7, 16gb ram, 1GB Nvidia GC. It is working flawlessly. Some softwares i have tried on it are Photoshop, Adobe Works, GP, Office 365, Office 2010 and many software development applications that works without any issues. Similar specs on Dell Optiplex 9010 too and again no issues.

The best part about Dell desktops is 3 yr NBD Warranty, in built intel wifi and bluetooth, 1 hdmi port apart from what comes on GC, 2 display ports, 4 USB 3.0 ports (2 at front) and 4 USB 2.0 Ports and AIO memory card reader. Similar specs on HP, ASUS makes them very expensive. I haven't had experience with Acer so won't know how good it is.

You may wanna check software compatibilities with Win 8 Pro. For me, its not a problem so far.

Thanks for the info!

Did you get these machines in India recently? If so, please tell me the price you paid for these specs.

Sahil, these systems are in USA but all the components are made in Thailand and assembled in USA. I think its the same there. Dell India must be just assembling them and get parts from Thailand, Indonesia.

But the specs are the same. Price is almost the same. I paid somewhere around $700-$1000 for i3 and i7 resp. Sorry can't help you in that regards.

Hello Friends,

I have 2 old desktop PCs. I planned to fix one of them for Home theater use with my projector. The Configuration is Pentium 4 2.8 GHz. Intel CPU, 1 GB of DDR 1 (or 2?) RAM, 40 GB HDD, and onborad Intel graphics.

The problem is that when I tried playing, worked fine with normal SD video files, but whenever I tried to play 720p videos, the screen went blank & dark and the computer hangs for about a minute. When display comes back, it gets switched to the lowest resolution and lowest bit color with some error message that a driver has stopped working and all this stuff.

Please let me know, if there is a way I can use it to play HD videos? I will be trying with some driver updates tonight but not sure.

Please suggest.

Thanks,
Saket

I think your onboard GPU does not have capacity to play HD videos.
