I really hope this will happen. It is getting so late, it is ridiculous. I'd read 3 days back in the papers that the Defence guys are now refusing to vacate the frequency spectrum(?) that will be needed for rolling out 3G.

HSDPA is basically a flavour of 3G, isn't it? That is, it needs 3G networks to hop on? Or is it a standalone technology?

Eten glofiish X800 - Full phone specifications

Looks nice doesn't it? Seems to have everything that everybody has been talking about in this thread.

Any hope of getting this phone from the US or something? Will it work in India? Pardon my ignorance about things like locked/unlocked etc.

HSDPA is 3.5G. Most 3G handsets these days are HSDPA compliant, and so are most of the new 3G networks - it gives faster speeds than 3G and I doubt if any of the manufacturers make 3G-only networks these days.

Even if they do, the chinese make 3.5G networks at a cost less than that of 3G networks by Ericsson, Alcatel, Nokia, Motorola or Siemens.

Anyone have any experience with the o2 atom life or o2 flame?

Here is a review of the life that is rather short on praise

O2 Xda Atom Life: Reviews - Cool Gear - Mobile Phones - ZDNet Australia

Wanted to get others' take on it.. And any idea about pricing and availability in India?

HTC touch does not support 3 G

so it will not support HSDPA as well.. A glaring omission IMO..

certainly not expected in a PDA with such advanced GUI

The way things are dragging, No 3G may not make any difference for another year at least. Grrrrrrr... I wish the parties involved (govt, defence and the service providers) would stop playing catch with each other and do something solid about it.

Agree hydra,,but Touch will become obsolete if 3 g becomes a reality in 6 months / 1 year. To compare look at the available connectivity options in Nokia E 61i , Connectivity
  • WCDMA PS (packet switched data) with maximum upload and download rate of 384 kbps
  • GPRS/EGPRS (Class B, MSC 32)
  • GSM CSD (circuit-switched data) up to 14.4 kbps
  • HSCSD (high-speed circuit-switched data) up to 43.2 kbps
  • Dual transfer mode MSC11, SAIC (single antenna interference cancellation) release v2
  • Integrated WLAN
    • WLAN: 802.11b, 802.11g*
    • WLAN Security: WPA2-Enterprise, WPA2-Personal, WPA-Enterprise, WPA-Personal
    • WLAN Quality of Service: WMM, U-APSD
  • Email data roaming
  • Integrated infrared module (up to 115 kbps)
  • USB 2.0 full speed supported through Pop-Port™ interface
  • Bluetooth 1.2 specification
As I plan to use this PDA ,atleast for 2 years ,before an upgrade , think makes sense to buy something which is future proof , atleast for technolgy which is around the corner.

What according to you is the best PDA / smartphone below 25K in India ? ( with b & W )

W12 I agree with you completely on the E61i. In fact I'd suggested this phone to two of my friends last month, and both of them picked it up the very week it was out here in Kerala. One of those guys has the very first one in Kerala. I saw and handled one of those, and it rocked. Solid build (no creaks), great screen, just the right size & weight, and a looooooong lasting battery. Not to mention that it is feature packed. The camera is pretty decent too. (The E61 & E62 lacked one)

Right now, I'd say the E61i is the best buy (I think it is 19.5k) at the under 25K mark. All it lacks is a touchscreen which I prefer (My XDA IIi has spoilt me). The next IMHO would be the Atom Life, but I think that is like 32K (in the grey).

If you use Outlook heavily, there is this software called Roadsync for Symbian ($50 I think) that keeps your phone synced with the server.

Thanks Hydrashok.

E 61i looks like a winner at that price.certainly in my shortlist.unfortunately grey market is a strict NO No for me.

waiting for Sony Ericssons P1! to be launched .hoping they will price it around 25k in India .

Another option is Samsung i600 , which should get SW upgrade to WM6 soon.

O>T> Have you read about the Meizu Minione ? ?Meizu's miniOne packs more acronyms than you can handle - Engadget

a killer package , if true.
