Default 4G/LTE router or gateway

I am trying to get 4G/LTE as backup Internet to my office, which is remotely located. I get 25mbps speed on LTE at my office, ironically that is the fastest internet option available to me. The next fastest broadband option is 6mbps over Ethernet.

Anyway, I will be getting a 4G sim. But I need to convert this into Ethernet connection in order to connect to the company firewall. I have 3 options:

Option 1: 4G/LTE to ethernet Router that takes a sim card (band 40).
Example: Huawei B593s-82

Option 2: 4G/LTE to USB dongle that takes a sim card (band 40).
Example: Can't find a model number for this. Will this work?

Option 3: 4G/LTE to wifi Router takes a sim card (band 40).
Example: Can't find a model number for this.

Option 4: This is really juggad and expensive. Use a 4G/LTE (band 40) phone to convert 4G to wifi. This is the last resort, really.
Example: Any 4G phone sold in India will do.

If I use option 2, I need another router that can take 4G dongle, I saw some on Amazon.in site.

If I go with option 3 & 4, I need to add a wifi to ethernet adapter (like NETGEAR Universal N600 Dual Band Wi-Fi to Ethernet Adapter).

So, I really want to use option 1 or 2, but unable to find that model in India. Has anyone done this before? Should I start looking into Alibaba to find acceptable components?

Your one option is a 4G router which can work through a USB dongle. Eg this one
http://www.ebay.in/itm/TP-Link-TL-MR...p2054897.l4275

You can buy this router + the 4G USB dongle, and connect 4G dongle to this. This enables you to connect devices via ethernet cable.

For a wifi router which takes a sim card

Thanks. BTW, I suddenly remembered seeing a USB port on our Sonicwall TZ105. A quick check revealed that it can take the USB dongle directly.

So, my firewall directly accepts a 4G dongle. Whether airtel dongle is compatible is another question. It isn't listed among the supported ones.

Sonicwall supports the following dongles: http://www.sonicwall.com/supported-w...cards-devices/

Airtel dongle: Huawei E3272

Let me see whether it will work. If there is a Sonicwall compatible dongle that accepts Airtel 4G sim, even that will do.

Edit: No, it doesn't work. I'll need to get that TP-Link router.

I have been using that TPLink router for quite sometime.
It gives you four modes of operation for fail safe. You can choose your connection to be either WAN/4G or any one prioritized over the other without restart.
Its reliable and I used without restart for around 10 days. However keep in mind that the wireless transmission capacity is just average and 10 inch concrete walls end the story.
It also has compatibility issues with 4G routers of certain make.

I won't need it since my Sonicwall Firewall does that function.

Here it will be permanently on and I would keep the wifi switch off. I just need 4G to Ethernet conversion.

If it works with Airtel 4G USB dongle, I am good.

setup tethering on a cheap phone. Get wifi bridge, connect to phone's network and connect the ethernet portion of bridge to a switch or one of your router/ Fw interface. Other option is to get a 4g wifi dongle (I use a airtel one) which replaces the phone. The reason I am suggesting is to quickly isolate any connection or support issues with 4g

Airtel website lists a 4G-Wifi Router. If this works for you, then you can use a Wifi Repeter (I am using Asus RT-N10E) to get the ethernet connection. I am using a similar setup at home. My WAN link is DSL though.

Another option (expensive in terms of power consumption) is to use a old PC to connect the 4G dongle and enable internet sharing.

Silly noob question but doesn't the Airtel 4G router anyway have an Ethernet port? Will that not do?

I have it at home and enjoy 40+ speeds nearly all the time.

That was my first choice, but they don't sell that anymore because of some complaints. Apparently, it doesn't downgrade to 3G when 4G signal is not there.

It has an Ethernet port? I wasn't aware of it. It would have been perfect, but they refuse to sell it these days.

I use TP-LINK TL-MR3020 along with a Reliance Netconnect dongle when I travel to my hometown. It is small, supports 4G and has ethernet port.

I have a Dlink DWR 113 3G router. Has a USB port which can connect any dongle. It has one broadband Ethernet input and 4 gigabit Ethernet output ports with failover feature. Been using it for over a year now. Works great!

Oh, that's a neat little device if one doesn't need Wifi.

But I am looking for 4G routers...

How come there are no 4G routers that can take a sim card directly?

About a year ago I had subscribed to Airtel's "4G LTE" connection - my experience with it here (How much do you pay for your broadband?) - the post has the details of the 4G router.
The router takes a 4G SIM & has an internal battery ( best feature of this router ).
I found the 4G service from Airtel very unreliable ( poor signal strength ), at least where I stayed ( Neeladri Road, Electronic City ) & I had to switch to a regular broadband connection last year.
The 4G router is not in use anymore, wouldn't mind giving it away to somebody who's interested in "experimenting" with it.

It is not a 3G router specifically, it has a USB port that can be used to plug in a 4G dongle.
