I'm not wall mounting it, so no great shakes. And a TV shouldn't be too hard to configure... being a gadget geek I think I'll set it up myself. I'll probably get the Panasonic guys to come and show a demo.
One of the reasons why I didn't want to setup myself (hardly any thing if not wall mounting) is that, if the piece was found to be a demo piece and Pansonic guys are the ones who are running the set for the first time, then I have better stand than say I try the setup and find that it is already setup (if it is a demo peiece). Just taking a safe approach. If you are sure abt the set, there is hardly any thing to setup on TV specially if you are using DTH.

The showroom of Orange Electronics on the ring road near Ramamurthynagar was shut down last evening (at 6.30pm) with a notice that all stocks are sold out.

Large crowd was outside the showroom waiting to see if they will open the doors.

Did anyone go to check with these guys?

Saji if you intend to get a 50 incher without budget constraints, get a Pioneer. Don't bother with Panasonic. It doesn't even come remotely close in terms of image quality.

Hey,
I thought with the cost Panasonic 50PY850 is more justified. Reviews so far is excellent for this one. I will closely follow this space for next two months and study all possible reviews before I make my decision. I am targeting a 46-50" FullHD for around 1.5L-1.7L.
However I haven't ruled out Pioneer. Availability, support and cost of Pioneer is also a concern for me.

I am also waiting to see how the Panny PY850 holds up against new Pioneer 9 series.

KB, Pio 9th Gen may not be worth it, it comes only in 50" Full HD and higher sizes, my guess is it would start from around 3 lakhs. SHould launch any time now.
Instead you can go for existing 50" 720p 8th Gen pio. (model 508) for about 1.5 lakhs.

I have seen all three side by side in Canada, and Pio 8th gen (last years) is way ahead of Panasonic 11th Gen 1080P (this years). The difference between pio 8th Gen and 9th gen is not so much to justify the price, considering that there is no 720P model in 9th Gen.

Also 9th gen model cuts down on lot of calibaration settings which were there in 8th gen pio. (Incidentally the 8th Gen Pio in India is the elite version and not the basic version, which the 9th gen is likely to be)

I would either go for 8th gen 50" or skip the 9th gen and go for 10th gen pio! With the new Matus hita glass it will at least be cheaper and would have more technological advancements.

Also IMO (based on technical facts) 1080p is not required unless you plan to watch a 50" from under 8ft.

can anyone tell me where to buy the pv80 in NCR at decent prices, here in NOIDA the price is around ~62k, which is quite a lot compared to 56k, the cheapest quoted on the thread!

..also if there might be other good choices of Plasmas/LCD tvs that i should look out for, budget ~60k - 42inches.

ST - I agree with you entirely. My comparison is between the FULL HD PY805 vs the 720p Pioneer 8 Series 508 since both are at the same price point at this time. I am assuming with the advent of the 9series the prices of the Pio may fall a little more.

Have you narrowed down on what you are going to buy yet?

In any case - since you have compared them in person can you please elaborate on what you found different/better in the Pio? Will help me decide.

Has anyone exchanged a 29" flatscreen TV while buying LCD/Plasma? Any idea of exchange values?

I checked with Devi and they offered me 6k for a 2 yr. old Phillips 29' Flat - I have been pushing for 8k as it's hardly been used.

FYI.
The latest edition of AV MAX has a reference DVD which can be used to test LCD TVs/Plasma. Havent played it yet. It has the action scene from Die Hard 4, AVP (to test black levels), I Robot (white levels) etc.

Saves you the job of carrying a whole bunch of dvds i guess.
