Hi,

I know this may not be the right thread for this query, just wondering what else will be needed in addition to Pana PV80 for a good home theatre experience (on a tight budget ofcourse), don't want to spend too much else the PV80 may also get shot down by the home ministry.

I would say a PV8 and Philips HTS 4750 home Theatre ( 45500 rs + 24000) will keep a sweet couple. Why, bcos I have it and I and and my friends enjoy it to the T.

Yesterday, next house kid comes out and asks me "uncle, why earthquake comes only from your house"

Sometimes I wonder if the PV80 is more like a Pandora's box. First buy PV80 , then to see a good pic buy tata sky +, now to enjoy dvd's buy ps3/upscaling dvd player, then to really enjoy the package get a good home theater. Oh man will there ever be an end to this ?

Threw the old sofas and got a 3+1+1 art leather posh looking ones. Then I found the dining table was only 4 chair, could not find it matching with the surrounding too. Disposed it and got a 6 chair one with more style and strength. Wifee asked, "hope you are not planning to upgrade your wife too, since I am already 5 years with you" I came back to real life and stoped my upgrades that moment.

Exactly what went through my mind. But I wont think about a new house for a 42" screen. May be the day I can afford 60+", I might also think about house upgrade. Need to slog for vitamin M till then.

Shankyz, look what happens when you gt the PV80 be careful, you might end up upgrading your house.

I still have to check the system recommended by Ram, but it seems to be a nice one.

Just checked with Niranjan in Devi. His rates are 45,500 for PV8 and 53,500 for PV80. I was thinking of getting PV80, but the difference looks too much to me.

In Delhi, yesterday's prices were 47K for PV8 and 51K for PV80 (both with bills). Could be 1-2 lower once you finalise and shop around, and another 1-2 lower without bill. By the way Pioneer 428 is now out of stock and perhaps new/newer generation stock is expected next month.

Why don't you talk to these guys once. You might get better pricing. You can also then talk to niranjan and tell them about the JD electronics pricing.

Yes Appuchan, talk to JD Vaibhav . Devi brought their price down only after JD came up with a competitive pricing. My experience with JD has been awesome. He has sold Pana to our TBhp members also.

Why without bill when we get PV8 for 45.5k with bill + stand + wall mounting bracket + Pana installation free + 1 yr warranty?

Just read the thread (some 15 to 20 posts) you will see that its been discussed in detail. In short, SD Card slot, GLossy Panel, VPro III processor, Extra HDMI input wich dont justify the cost diff in my opinion

I think Pioneer is inaugurating a showroom today (17.1.09) at Ambience Mall, NH8. They are advertising full plasma HDTVs.

Catalogue: http://www.panasonic.asia/viera/down...%20Catalog.pdf

PV80 has these features over PV8:
  1. C.A.T.S. (Contrast Automatic Tracking System)
  2. 'Auto' Picture Mode
  3. SD Memory Card Slot (SDHC Compatible)
  4. 1 front HDMI Input
  5. ±15° Swivel Angle
  6. 0.5Kg more weight
C.A.T.S. looks like a useful feature. Any feedback on this? Otherwise PV8 looks OK.

I checked 42" PV80 & PV8 side-by-side. There is absolutely no difference in video or audio quality for the same settings. Only difference I found is PV80 panel is glossy-finish, while PV8 is matt-finish.

This was at Panasonic brand shop in Koramangala 100ft road. The best prices quoted was:
PV80: Rs 50,000
PV8: Rs 47,000
(exchange of old TV will give additional Rs 1,500 discount).

Surprisingly PY800 series wasn't available. How much would PY800 42" cost?
