Buying a Flat Panel Display (LCD/Plasma/LED etc)

PS-- i decided on this model after comparing it to an equivalent Sony model as the Sony has only 40" and also 10 bit of color when compared to 17 bit on this one. Also Sony is 10k more expensive.

Thats an awesome TV. However the G10 plasma from panasonic is probably a better all rounder and you can get it for 20 grand less.

That LCD TV has a very very good picture processor. Way ahead of the other LCD processors. Triple core processor to deal with motion judder and to remove halo effect. Philips call it Naturo motion.

I should know since I was involved in the development/testing of that processor.

I was of the opinion that Neo Plasma Display panels consume less power than the conventional PDP as I read this somewhere. But, when I saw the specs of the G series of the new plasmas(neo plasmas) from Panasonic, for the 42", the power consumption is approx 445 watts where as for an equivalent 42PV80, it is around 335 watts. Am I missing anything here or is it that I've mistaken about Neo PDP's?

Guys am looking out for a 42" plasma. All the tech specs making me really confused. What are the things i should be looking for when shopping for one. So far have seen the panny PV80D and PV8 and LgP30. So far liked the P80D. Some suggestions please.
Also what are the merits of a full HD over HD ready, considering that i would not be using a blu-ray player for the next couple of years atleast. Whats HD ready by the way? Help the technologically challenged please.

HD Ready = 720p
Full HD = 1080p

At around 10 ft viewing distance, unless you are a videophile, you'll not notice any difference between both these resolutions.

The Panasonic PV80 and PV8 are both very well discussed and recommended plasmas in this thread.

I checked out the LG plasmas, PQ30 and PQ70, yesterday. Very impressed with the PQ, with different sources (DVD and standard cable). Too bad they did not have DTH to also compare with. The color seemed natural, with different settings, no motion blur that I could make out (checked with the mine-blowing scene in Behind Enemy Lines) and the design looked ok. Did not check the USB port (not too interested). Can somebody tell me where I can check both the Pana and the LG side by side?

BTW, best price for PV8 so far 44k, for the LG 40k. Both without any exchange, and not much negotiation. Both 42" models. Did you guys know that LG has plasmas in 32"? I was like :O

Couple of people at my office have complained that their Panasonic plasmas went bad after around 18-24 months of usage (post warranty) and now are faced with huge bill for repair. This has made me wary of this model.

Thanks. As said above, trying to overcome my fear of Panasonic because of some stuff i heard.

Yeah couldn't find a model that offered similar specs from any other brand. The only issue is how to avoid paying this high premium over some of the other reccomendations?
I was thinking if i wait a month or so till Dussera, maybe this model has more competetion and i get a better deal!

I bought 100 HZ CRT from Philips and whatever they claim, it has motion blur. The technology of 100/200 Hz doesnt' seem to be mature enough yet.

Can you ask them what exactly were the problems? What went bad? How was there viewing conditions? How was it connected to the power sockets? This will help us in avoiding such issues and heartburn. Most of the time it's not the gadget but the user to be blamed for their negligence. Please do share.

Which LED TV? If its Samsung, they are LED backlit LCD TVs.
