| Really nice pictures there! I went to checkout the LG42PQ70 model yesterday and got a quote of Rs. 45,990 from the local LG dealer and Rs. 45,600 from Hometown. (After lots of bargaining) Worth it people?...or are there any better deals or 42' models i should look into?

Thanks. Yeah 45.5k is a very good price for this model, as the PQ70 is the top of the plasma range in LG in India. Go for it. We got it for 46k here in Chennai after some bargaining. The guy was actually quite firm on 47k as the price. Just went and picked up a V-Guard Digital 100 stabiliser for the plasma/DVD player/Sony receiver last evening. Cost 3k. Warm regards, Venkat

| Venkat, buddy, thanks a ton for your detailed replies. Helped a lot!!!! Another question, are you using burn-in preventive settings (meaning low contrast, color, brightness etc.) for the first 100 hours or usage or so, or have you already calibrated to your viewing tastes? Guys, picked up the TV, the 42 PQ70, from the LG brand shop here in Hyderabad for 43.7k (including a 1% processing fee for CC payment). So far so good. Have just set it up, so no reviews, but I can tell you I tested it with everything. Bluetooth, USB, DVDs, cable et al. Looked good to my, albeit untrained, eye. Will put up a more detailed review once I put the TV through its paces.

| Among plasmas, in amazon.com, the Samsung PN42B450 and Panasonic P42X1 have excellent user reviews. Any they are priced similar to the LG 42PQ30. the LG has a very good review as well but the Panasonic and the Samsung have 30 good reviews! Amazon.com: Samsung PN42B450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV: Electronics Amazon.com: Panasonic VIERA X1 Series TC-P42X1 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV: Electronics Amazon.com: LG 42PQ30 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV: Electronics The Samsung is 59K MRP. Someone has said that the Panasonic costs 63k. Any idea on the current street price of the Samsung and the Panasonic in India? The LG looks like a bargain if it is 10-15k less that the other 2!

Congrats on the purchase of your new LG 42PQ70 plasma tv !! It's a superb tv man. As you watch more stuff on it, it will continue to floor you with its picture quality. If you have an upscaling DVD player connected to the tv thru HDMI, try playing a normal divx dvd rip thru the dvd player. Even standard divx movies look so good. I was testing out the Incredible Hulk movie yesterday and wow. It looked very good. It was a Divx version with 5.1 sound, file size around 1.46GB. Enjoy your tv and let us know how it goes. As for your question on burn-in prevention settings, well as you know there is an auto ambience sensor which can be set to low, med, high etc. Turn this off, and choose one of the user modes - ie Standard, Cinema, Sports, Game etc. I chose Standard, and then adjusted the colour, contrast, brightness etc to my liking while playing DVDs and Divx so that they looked good. Then, I turned on the Ambience Sensor to High so that it automatically adjusts to the light in the room and increases or decreases your contrast and brightness accordingly. This ambience sensor also saves energy, which is probably why it is known as the Energy Saver in the menu. But it works 100% and we are pretty happy with it. Once you turn off the Energy Saver option, you will see the panel suddenly becoming very bright etc. U can see my settings in one of the pictures attached to this thread, where it says "Standard (User)" in the menu. These are the settings being used for the past one week or so with an average viewing of 2-3 hrs a day in the evening for tv serials, and then for an hour or so at nights when I do all my testing, exploration etc. By the way, we have picked up a 3 year extended warranty from LG for the plasma which cost us around 11.5k or so. This even covers lightning damage. So no worries till the year 2013. By then, we may be ready to change the TV again ! Warm regards, Venkat ![]()

| BHPian | Venkat, Did u buy the LQ plasma from the LG Shoppe ? I have tried my luck at various electronics stores around my area and none stock the LG plasma , heck even the famous Chroma store didn't have it. I am keen on a demo and buying it. Looks like i might have to wait for a while before i land my hands on it.... Guys from Pune any pointers to where we can get to see a LG plasma apart from LG shoppe?

you should get a decent 26 incher for that price from any of the reputed brands such as sony (t-series) or samsung (series 4) or panasonic (le8) or lg. check out which ever you like the best and pick it up if poss, would suggest you to stretch your budget to 30k and pick up a 32" samsung series 4. you wont regret it. hey sahil, you should get a lg 19" in that price, if not you can pick up a sony 19" t-series, for about 14k.

| BHPian | 42PQ70 price seems like a good buy for a 720P Plasma panel. What resolution can it support via VGA? Can it do 1280×720 via VGA? Did anyone try connecting this TV to a computer? If yes, how is the image quality? I've seen in the past that VGA support was available only at lower resolutions in some panels and hence this doubt.
