Samsung and Sony both get their LCD Panels from the same company (in Korea I think), where they have 50-50 ownership. But besides the Panel, it's the picture processing capability of Sony (Bravia Engine) which makes final output on same panels look better. DNiE does not compete with Bravia engine, which is far more superior. Of course with Sony you pay extra for brand also.

I have not seen Samsung's LA46F71B so I cannot comment on it.

CRT's are available till 36" size, but now days nobody keeps them. You will have tough luck finding one above 29".
Yes, possibly they are not made any longer...

Here's a chart that will help yo'l decide what resolution will work best for you, w.r.t tv screen size and viewing distance.

I plan to buy Sony 32" V seried LCd. Where do i get a good offer for LCD Tv's in Bangalore? , I am planning to exchange my old Samsung CRT's and go in for an LCD, so can any place be suggested for an exchange offer scheme or anything as such?

I am not a fan of LCD TVs. Only the priciest ones have decent black levels, and the moderate price to inexpensive ones have motion induced image smear as the LCD response time isn't fast enough.

My favorite TV type are LCOS rear projection TVs (Sony SXRD or JVC D-ILA), followed by the DLP rear projection, followed by good plasmas. LCD is way back in 4th place.

I believe that model goes for around 45k in the grey market and around 55k with a bill and warranty.

In 32" space LCDs are an amazing vfm.
DLP rules. but for unleashing true potential, you have to go way big.

Thumbs up

harbir if u read the thread from a few days ago - i have been harping 'bout sxrds/3lcds for quite sometime now. I own a bravia 42" 3lcd which is pretty decent
Unfortunately Sony decided to stop stocking it in India as at 1/3rd the rates of lcds it was cannibalising their own lcd sales

I had good discussion with my uncle who is very talented as far as his technical skill in area

According to him:

DLP is best TV but not launched in India yet but we can expect it in 2008.

Plasma is better than LCD because LCD starts fading within 2 years. Lasma lasts more. In day time while viewing TV LCD won't give good effect where as Plasma is ideal for all day viewing. LCD is sutiable for night viewing.

Once DLP is lauchned it will rule although initially it might be costly to buy.

As of now Panasonic Plasma/LCd is best suited for indian condition because of its strong circuit. Sony comes next.

Regards,

Ravi.

I tend to disagree. I have worked with people who design LCD TVs(VLSI end), Plasma electronics, and DLP. Plasma's are more prone to burn in. As for screen life both Plasma and LCD can do 30,000 hours.
If your TV is on 10 hours a day you can easily do minumum 3000 days. Thats close to 8 years, not 2.
Screen life is not measured in years, its measured in "Hours of use".
Even way back in 2003-2004 when current technologies were in developments, prototypes undergoing stress testing had very limited "screen failures".
the Bete Noir of modern TVs in India as far as failure goes? Inability to handle unclean voltage(many times you get 45-40Hz instead of 50) and sometimes you get micro voltage surges etc.,
Ensure a clean power supply(A good quality voltage stabilizer with surge protection), and your LCD or Plasma will last very long

its an excellent tv - i am using the 42" 3lcd and its good with games/movies/tatasky. At 1/2 the price of a similar spec'd lcd its a steal provided you dont mind the fact that you can't wall mount this baby
unfortunately, it seems either sony or the dealers are pulling a fast one on us by saying that this tv is out of stock, which dealer won't, given that the margins are much more on lcds
I had 9-10 ppl in my office buy after i bought and all are happy, and there are plenty more colleagues who wanted to buy one and would still pay me full money if i ever wanted to sell it in the next few months.
Its a good deal, if you are getting one, pick it up.

DLP technology is been around for quite a while.. It is used in projection TVs. Use either single or three DLP chips (TI technology). These TVs have been around for over three years.. Not been introduced in India still means something.. does'nt it?
