I got a LG 32" and am perfectly happy with it.
I watch 720p videos from my laptop on the LG, and also DVDs, and I like lot of car shows.
Sometimes I play rise of nations on the TV instead of the tiny 15" monitor.
For somebody looking at VFM LG makes good sense.
tsk1979 - could you guide me how you connect your laptop to your LCD?

I agree, I dont think LG LCD is cheap compared to other brands (except Sony!). LG offers good VFM and international warranty (in my case, as I bought LG LCD from Dubai and it was the only brand offering global warranty for 2 years).

Hey everyone

This thread has picked up full speed. I have some queries, so please do your best.

I went to sony world to pick up a 40" LCD with budget of 1L. When i got there I saw the 46" V300A for Mrp 1.3L (which a month or so ago was for Mrp 1.5L) which is 1080p capable (Capable - I still dont know what that means) and the 40" W300A for Mrp 1.3L which is full HD, again 1080p but does not use the word capable. I SHOULD get 10% discount on Mrp. When i saw both I somehow wanted 46" just for sheer size and VFM.

Now out of these two dont know which one to go for. It will mostly used for cable TV (Dish TV DTH) and normal/pirated DVDs with rare gaming usage. With it I will also buy a new sony dvd player with HDMI and 1080p upscale (sony dvp-ns78h).

I have to make a decision within 15-20 days. Any help will be appreciated.

Mr Bansal

LG has launched a 32" Plasma for 40K. Check lgezbuy.com for specs. Has anyone seen this set?

Mr. Bansal, since the bulk of your viewing would be for standard def TV and presumably not-so-good-quality pirated dvds, it would better not to go for 46. The chances of the irregularities showing up are higher.

@sahil - it's not a typo.
@maser - check the breaking news section at the lower half of the LGe-Shoppe home page.

The following tech specs look great
- 100hz (HD ready LCD's are only around 60hz )
- 0.001ms response time ( normal LCD's have like 8ms response time, I wonder if this is a typo on the site)
- inbuilt technology which reduces the power consumption
(Being a plasma wonder if it will come close to the LCD in power consumption)

Yes, technically speaking, Plasmas start 37 inch and above. Read Line 2 of this Wikipedia article Plasma display - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Most showroom guys will tell you that 'the real benefit' of Plasmas can be had at above 42 inch size

Anyways, this article might help also Plasma vs LCD TV - a detailed comparative guide to flat-panel TV technology

It's a nice price, but the resolution and brightness figures are lower than the 42 plasmas.

Default Help me to buy LCD TV

Folks,
I thought of LCD TV with budget 50K, guessed 32" would fit. Viewing distance at home is between 10-11 ft (which allows to go up to 40").

When I visited few shops yesterday, I found Samsung 32" (8000:1 dynamic contrast) LCD priced 65K.

To my surprise, I saw Samsung 40" (7000:1 dynamic contrast; I guess model no is LN-T4042H 40" LCD - Samsung LCD TV - Samsung LN-T4042H Specifications and LCD TV Reviews) which was priced 70K - just with 5K higher, I can own 40".

Though I am stretching my budget by 20K more, I thought 40" would make it good buy for long run - I am yet to move to own house.

Do you guys suggest this model? Or anything else? Another 40" model in Samsung costs 80K with 8000:1 dynamic contrast. Will it make sense to go with that, with 30K more from my original budget. Sony is way costlier, ruled out.

I, myself, will spend at least 2-2.5 hours per day watching TV and my family will watch it at least 3-4 hours more than me. We watch channels (Tata Sky) and movie DVDs (mostly original, few pirated as well).

I am planning to buy in 1st week of Mar, can you guys help me out to find best model? I think, I can stretch to max 75K (that too if the model is best to get for this price), beyond which I see no point in investing so much.

If you bargain hard at Adishwar or Devi, maybe wave a bundle of notes as done in China, you might get a Samsung 40R8 at 75K. It's Full HD. They start the 'bidding' at about 85K.

PS: Forget the x:1 dynamic contrast ratio figures. Ask the demo guy to reset to factory settings, put on all the showroom lights, and then see if you like the brightness and contrast.
