This keeps getting interesting...
The best quotes I have at the moment are
Pioneer 508XD (768p) 150000
Panasonic 50 PV80 (768p) 106000
Panasonic 50 PY800 (1080p) 150000

Posting here for your reference, if you negotiate hard you can get the same or better!

Pioneer 508XD is the elite range from Pioneer and universally accepted as the best flat panel TV ever made till now. 9th Gen Pioneer is the only one which is probably better than this one...India launch estimated around 21st Oct.

i keep it in eco mode which keeps the contrast relatively close to standard mode (not dynamic) and also I like to see the cats at work

As far as hd content goes, blurays pretty expensive in india rs.2400+, however in US you can get movies or boxed sets for 20usd per bluray movie you can also get some great hd stuff from divx.com, bbc.com, etc for free

You get a lot of HD content on the net for download. You could save it on your laptop and play it on the TV through DVI input. I have even downloaded full Blu-ray disc rips.

That's simply amazing, I got a quote of Rs.225,000 for the PDP-508XD from a well-known high-end electronic vendor here in Chennai - that's like a Rs.75,000 mark-up !?!

So the Pioneer plasmas would be sold officially here in India from October ?

Are you supposed to mention this here? I am sure mods would be super-unpleased with you ATM!

There was an ad in today's Bangalore Times that Modern World is selling the 42PV8 for 70k with a free Onkyo HT (S3105) worth 30k. The same page had another ad where the Onkyo HT was quoted for 20k. So net-net the PV8 is worth about 50k - Will they be willing to sell the TV for this price?

What's wrong with appuchan's statement? There are loads HD stuff that can be legally downloaded.

Even today Pioneer plasma is officially imported and sold in India. Though there are only few authorized dealers/importers.

Hey guys, I have a question:-
Did any of you install a voltage stabilizer for your plasma? Is it absolutely necessary? If so, what brand and how much does it cost?

It is a must for any sophisticated equipment. I heard somewhere that most of TVs that go to service station are for power related problems.

I saw ad of V-Guard in paper, they make digital stabilizers for LCD/Plasma TVs.

Looks like we dont have separate topic for Plasmas so putting it here as end of the day they both are TV.
Panasonic is offering TH-42PV8 for 58K now or 70K with Onkyo HT-S3105 Home Theatre System which actually costs 30K(MRP).
Also Saw Samsung PS42A410C1 at 56K after discount and PS42A450P1 for 62K after discount and its 100Hz model confused a lot suggetions please.

@ Ajaybiz
For plasmas, opt for Panasonic PV8 or PV80, it is much better compared to Samsung and it has been discussed earlier in thread few pages back.

@ sam003
Had seen a 37" HD ready Hitachi LCD for 55k in pune two weeks back. It's a 10 bit panel & has good picture quality.
I didn't buy it due to lack of availability of the set on a specific day, bought a 40" S series Sony LCD instead.

I'd rather put the TV directly than put it through a V-Guard. The latter is a complete piece of crap. If you open one up, you'd realize how poorly built it is. Infact a friend of mine ran the output of a v-guard through a scope and it was dirtier than the wall socket. If power conditioning is really needed, I'd either buy an APC Sinewave UPS or a good brand CVT. Both of these actually do the job but aren't cheap.

Absolutely. Especially movie trailers and music video promotions are widely available which are legally ripped from Blu-ray discs.
