If you are on Hathway set top box, can you once go to any of the radio channels(channesl arround 890+) where the complete screen will be with blue back ground color, then check if you are able to see any thing like what I said before. I guess it must be because of some cable signal issue. Thanks.

None of the issues - i think it has to do either with your cable or with you being one in a million people who are affected by rainbow effect look it up on google

Hope that helps.
Hi, what's ECO mode? I don't seem to find this in my PV8. The only modes are Standard, Dynamic & Movie.
By the way, i have found my optimum settings to be at 54, 46, 35, 10 (Contrast/ Br/ Color/ Shrp) with color mgt=off. Still can't make out any difference between different PNR modes. These are with Tata Sky.
One thing I miss is 14:9 mode which is mentioned on the Panasonic website but is not present in my model. Not much of a bother but it would have been a nice compromise between 16:9 ultra-stretched image and 3:4 orginal.

The PV8 does not have eco mode - its a PV80 feature. In this mode the contrast is automatically adjusted based on room lighting conditions measured by a sensor on the front of the tv. This sensor is missing on the pv8 and hence no eco mode.
I for one find the eco mode very useful, as my room lighting conditions keep changing (daylight from huge windows to bright room lights in eve to all lights off at night)

A peculiar observation: Today morning I was watching a business channel with a fast moving ticker. Slight judder was there. When I changed the scan freq from 100 to 50Hz, the judder just disappeared. So does it mean that 50Hz is better for fast motion scenes, contrary to popular belief that 100Hz scan is better for action scenes or I am missing something here?
Somebody else can try?

In the setup mode, the PV80 has an option 'Refresh rate' which has values of 50 Hz and 100 Hz respectively. If set to 50 Hz, the picture seems to flicker slightly where as it is stable in 100 Hz mode. Other PV80 owners, your comments pl.

guys.. has anyone compared the LX800 series of Panasonic and the Sony Bravia series , in 32 inch sizes?

I want to understand which would be a better deal - the Panasonic seems better on paper because of the 100hz refresh rate and costs ~45K in delhi

Default Philips 42" LCD

Experts,

I am looking for a Flat Panel TV.

This model 42PFL7482 from PHILIPS is available for INR 54,000 at Croma.

The price before was 85K.

I really want to know
  • Is it worth it, and is it future proof?
  • how much worth a 42" Flat Panel will be after Diwali
  • will it still be worthshile to go for a Plasma instead of LCD?

Gurus please help me decide which plasma TV to buy. We are looking at a 50 inch, viewing distance is about 20 ft. would prefer 60 inch but its double the price and cannot afford it.

We have shortlisted the following: (all official with b/w)

Samsung PS50A550S1 - Rs 1,25,000
LG 50PG61UR - Rs 1,25,000
Panasonic TH-42PY700 - Rs 1,50,000
Hitachi P50X01A - Rs 1,60,000

Which is the best one to go in for? Are these new models or outdated ones? Should we wait for sometime (max one month) before buying? Any other models we should look at (should be available officially)?

If I remember correctly (by picture not by model number) those models with silver color column rod are out of production now or have been replced by a new model. a dealer told me that when i was buying my TV a month back.
- for movies and home theatre plasma is fun (some models do come with less reflecting screen, as lot of samsung and LG will talk about reflections on plasma screen to push the LCDs), but if going to use your game consoles on it LCD would be better.

@RPM: If you have that kinda budget, look no further... its the Pioneer 508XG(5080HD) for you. Every other display pales in comparison :P. If you can spend more, the 9th gen Full HD pioneers will be here soon as well. Might be worth giving them a look.

@btirthankar: At that price, your best bet is the Panasonic PV8. Philips LCDs have a sad processing engine.

btirthankar, Panasonic PV8 is a safe bet. You only need to pay around 60K.

I can wait for a maximum of one month. I can stretch the budget to about 1.8 lakhs max. What makes the Pioneer that much better than the other plasmas? It does not display Full HD. Are the pioneers now available officially in india?

Guys! Just got myself a Panasonic TH-42PV80H, with bill for 58k. I think I got a great deal. Also bought a Philips DVD player with HDMI port for 4800 bucks. The pictures are just great on the Plasma & better for normal TV viewing when compared to my 40" sony LCD.

Just gonna get my self a HDMI cable now.
