The sales guy at Panasonic shop did show me a demo video regarding this. Two small metal globes are suspended about 3 to 4 feet high and released on to both Plasma and LCD screen. The LCD screen was cracked but the plasma shows no problem.

Most probably next month but can't say for sure. It should come before olympics.

Hope Beijing Olympics will prod TV makers to give some good, deep discounts. I am looking for a second TV in the 32-40' range.

Long time back? I still see motion blur taking it's toll on almost all LCD tvs. If it's not launched yet, it can;t be long time back!

Well anyway if it is back by picture quality and technical data I am willing to change my stand. After all I am yet to buy a flat panel TV, so far my research shows Plasmas lead.
But you have been dropping such hints from last one year and I haven;t seen much out in market. What's up?

I thought you mentioned that watching skin color tones is part of your job. That made me think. BTW What job you are in

Like I said you'll have to wait for the new series to come out a month or 2 before the Beijing olympics.

Guys, pardon my ignorance, but what difference does a double HDMI input make with a single? Further, what will we lose if we don't have 1080p scaling?
I enquired yesterday and found that the cheaper one is 66 K and the other is 78 K.
Which one should I go for, given that both are 42" Panasonic plasmas.

Hi,

2 HDMI's make sense if you plan to have more than one input, like a HD DVD and a playstation or a blueray player or whatever supports HDMI. Also 1080p scaling probably makes little sense. its ok to go for a lower model, as I am guessing that "scaling" means not Full HD.Anyway we do not have much HD content in India as of now and I dont see too much coming anytime soon.

i don't know how it works in most homes but TV's at my place are usually bought to last at least 8 years!! so anyone who works on a similar game plan should definitely shell out more and go for the full HD models.

that said i have been checking out tellys at the local store.......i don't understand what you guys are on about LCD vs. Plasma!! when it comes to motion picture quality LCD don;t deliver!!

the only plasma related issue that i can recollect are bulb replacements and burn in issues.

Generally, if I have an AV receiver, I would prefer to connect all sources (like DVD player, Blue Ray player etc) to it using digital interconnects, and have only one HDMI going from AV receiver to the TV. In such a scenario, all other inputs of the TV (maybe except 15 pin VGA for PC) become defunct and won't care for having an extra HDMI on my TV.
So it depends how you are going to connect the TV with all other equipment.

There is no bulb in plasma to replace!!! You are confusing it with rear projection TV.
Burn in issues are also history for all practical purpose. Not an issue for home viewing, unless you are using it hours together for static displays.

I even have new gen Plasma displays in my office, displaying same Text for 10 hrs (nonstop) a day, but the burn in is very minor and temporary, by next morning it is fine.

oh really? i remember reading something about plasmas having poor lamp life. i should have probably mentioned lamp instead of bulb in my earlier post.

i didn;t understand what you meant by "the burn in issue is sorted when u switch it off and turn it on again the next morning" - so you do have burn in issue when your watchin static images and also.... isn't burn in kinda permanent??

@flipsyde

What ST7677 is referring to is called image retention. This is only temporary, and goes away quite quickly. Burn in is permanent though, and is no longer much of an issue with plasmas.

However burn in can also occur on CRTs! In fact the computer im using at office right now has an image burnt onto the screen.

Plasmas also do not use a bulb/lamp and so nothing needs replacement.

Yes, there is nothing to replace there.
Life now days is 60,000 hrs to 100,000 hrs after that you just need to throw it away.

It's basically millions of tiny cells filled with Plasma/xenon, etc gases which get ignited, principle is same as CRT, but at a microscopic level.
