Guys,

Everything works perfect. Calls, GPRS - everything. It just shows IDEA instead of AIRTEL. So I really do not know what network I am on.

Need to get that Airtel on the network asap.

what u see on Settings > Carrier > It should be automatic
Otherwise you will see list under that heading. Try to select Airtel from there if present.

Umm. a sure shot solution.
Download the firmware 2.2.1
Jailbreak and unlock
Link : iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your 2.x.x 2G iPhone Using QuickPwn (Windows). Seems like a permission error on one of the carrier files.

PM me your email ID.
You need to SSH your phone and then set permissions for it.
Is it a 3g or the 2g?

Sam,

I have a lot of these apps installed on my iphone (Asaphalt 4, brothers in arms, hero of sparta, air hockey etc.).

Check this link, it will help you. I personally prefer using iTunes to install ipa files and the method I like best is 3

Installing ipa on the iPhone, Step by Step Guide | The iPhone

Let me know if it works for ya! Also, you need to install atleast one app (free or paid) from iTunes store for this to work.
