I do not know if this is the right place to be asking this, but I have seen an offer for a 3G 16Gb officially unlocked version (think its 9months old) its got a screen protector but the back is scratched pretty bad. The guy is asking Rs 24K, is it worth it?

no way. i wouldnt pay more than 20 for it. recently a friend of mine exchanged his 5 month old perfect condition 8gb for 17k.

Secondly doubt if it can be officially unlocked without crossing one year.

TOOOOOOOO MUCH! My 16GB (2G) is quoted at 10-12k. I've ordered a 3GS and it should come by 20th sept hopefully. Stocks are low even in the US. I will sell my old iphone then. Already booked by a few bhpians though. The bidding will start then!

Alrite guys, I had kinda agreed on the price but not completely earlier. After getting your comments I messaged the guy to reduce the price and its been some time and no reply from him. So I guess I will be buying from someone else.

Also wanted to ask you guys about buying these off ebay, like there are some sellers from Czech, Australia and all selling officially unlocked versions. Have any of you bought from ebay?

I had seen a 3GS 32 GB just the phone, no box or any other accessories for like $ 670, which was AT&T locked, do you think its a good deal?

Avoid expensive stuff. My rule is anything above $50, i won't buy. Lot of scams.

Why do you want to buy a locked phone? Unlocking it via software breaks push notifications. Do it only if you do not care about push notification.

Thanks for the info Tejas, last night I went looking for iphones and came across a few new Officially unlocked 3GS 32Gb for Rs 53K but that’s way beyond my budget for phone now. I also happened to see a couple of used but like new ones which have absolutely no scratches at all, everything included but its all priced around Rs 25K.

Right now all these pricings have left me in a dilemma, as to if I should really buy one.

Rather wait for the official launch then or get one from US or Hongkong.

BTW, an all new iphone will be out after 6 months. Looks same, new hardware and memory. Reliable Rumour.

Thats Rs 10,000 margin over the price of 32GB 3GS available from Apple store in Australia. if you consider GST refund which you get when you take the phone out of Australia, the margin increases to Rs 13,000!! Many guys are making a killing on ebay at even higher prices.

As Tejas said, wait until official launch or source from US/HK/AU.

BTW, I'll be buying the 16GB 3GS shortly.. But its gonna be a business expense
