You will be able to jailbreak your phone using custom firmware 3.1.2 but you will NOT be able to unlock it (yet).

Yup yup blacksn0w/blackra1n is the unlock/jailbreak solution for 05.11.07 on 3.1.x. I just did it to a friend's 3G this morning and it worked superbly!

It's the easiest and fastest unlock ever.. took me 15 mins!

I checked "iclarified" for some tutorials on unlocking 3gs iphone & I rather have a stupid query. It says that you have to be connected to the internet while installing cydia, are they talking about your PC to be connected or the iphone. This is subsequent to the installation of blackra1n.

I am not sure how iphone would be connected (GPRS) while its locked or I am missing something here.

Thanks in advance

your iphone needs to be connected via wifi. Once you use blackra1n, it will jailbreak your iphone. you then need to install the blackra1n repo into cydia and download blacksn0w to unlock your iphone.

They said Sept, then October and now its November! am really getting irritated with Apple and Telco's!

If there is a problem with sales numbers, cant they sell atleast through Apple stores?!

Hey,

You are right, once you have jailbroke the iPhone you need to be on WIFI to install Cydia and with RC3 you have the unlock software bundled with it.
I had problems installing all the bundle items at once. However, after installing one item at a time I was able to unlock. there is no need to add additonal repo for the unlocking

You can use GPRS if you are on the official carrier, otherwise use WiFi.

You can see this page for tutorials
