Digital Cameras Side-by-Side, 8 cameras: Digital Photography Review

I have been looking at the ones on table in the link. Tried to do some research my way. Which is better?

any other option?

need a simple, easy to use and fast P&S with good Image quality. Screen quality needs to be extra good as it is going to be for parents.

I would go for the Panasonic TZ-5. Has the zoom and wide angle. I got 2 friends to buy that and they love it.

Someone is offering me a used Canon Rebel XT. Would you'll recommend that as a first DSLR? Should I just pay more and get a new one? What should I look out for when I buy one?

I Have read that TZ5 doesnt have good flash range and image quality. It does have 28mm wide lens and 10x zoom which is why it is on the list.

I am leaning on canon SD950 or NV24HD from Samsung (Are samsung good???)

Used camera will be good if its well maintained.
How much is that person asking for it, and how many actuations does it have?
The shutter life of 350D is atleast 50,000 clicks, so a camera with less than 20K clicks should be good enough.

For still pics regular SD cards will work fine, for SD video Ultra 2, for HD video (17Mbps+) you will need Ultra 4; Ultra 2 tops out at about 12Mbps.

Im getting the XT body only for $260. Futureshop is selling a refurbished body only for $330 + 14% tax. XTi for $399 + 14%tax and the XS is for $530 + tax.

How do I check the number of actuations tanveer? Anything else to check?

Default question

This might sound foolish, but anyways - this morning, while looking into my lens i saw a small 'organism' moving from one side to the other. I freaked I thought it was ON the lens (since i use a filter) after removing the filter I realized that this 'spider like' thingy is actually inside. It's so small, i mean it's almost like dust that happens to be alive. (only as thick as a human hair !!)
Q. what is it?
Is it gonna wreck havoc?
What must I do?

I am planning to pick up a zoom lense for my 1000D.

Which of these would be a better buy?

1.Canon EF 55-250mm IS f/4-5.6 Lens.
2.Tamron AF 18-250mm Di II XR LD f/3.5-6.3 [IF] Aspherical Macro.
3.Sigma 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM.

Or do you guys suggest a better lens?

Also how much difference does a lens with IS make?

Check the file numbers, thats the easiest way, but that can be reset. In that case only canon can tell you.
If you can investigate the camera, go for it. Its better to buy from some known source.
Refurbished bodies are a better bet, but in that case also its impossible to be sure!

friends,
How does this pricing sound?

Canon 50D : 62K (this seems OK)
Canon EF-S 17-55: 67K (this seems a bit steep, I am torn between this and 24-105L)

Bangalore (fotocircle, with 2yr canon warranty). I do not plan to get these things from US because of the warranty concerns.

Thanks.

^^Excellent combo but I'm not sure about the prices. The body price seems okay but the lens price seems high. Internationally the 17-55 f/2.8 retails for around 900$. So thats around 45k at current exchange rates. 22k more for warranty sounds like a rip off.

@mcl: 55-250 IS is easily the best out of those.

I was wondering if he should go with the Sigma 18-200 since the kit lens on the EOS 1000D doesn't have IS

18-200's optical quality leaves a lot to be desired. The 18-55IS is much better.
Moreover, with Sigma-Canon combo, there is always the risk of "focus issues"
