Well, that is a requirement which any camera should be able to meet.

I think all p&s cameras have macro mode. So, that would be a bonus for you.

Low light shooting -> get a DSLR or a system/ bridge camera. However, budget has to be increased.

IMO for the requirements indicated:

1. Jewellery - Macro mode is needed to capture fine details of smaller size jewellery like ear rings, rings etc.

2. For jewellery as well as clothing - try to get a camera that has good auto white balance, else you will need to master the art of adjusting the white balance manually. Colors will not come out right if white balance is off the mark.

For both the above, good lighting and tripod (esp. for jewellery) is a must. You may want to read up on some DIY lighting solutions like spots and light boxes.

A focal lenght of 4x to 5x is more than enough. No need to go higher than that as optical quality may be compromised. A 4x zoom P&S with a wide angle starting at 24mm equivalent would be just right.

Your requirement is a bit complicated and budget is tight. It is mostly indoor shooting with less light but you need accuracy.

Compact cameras with more megapixels and small sensors do not work here.

My best recommendation will be the Nikon P310 with the excellent F1.8 Lens. You may have to stretch your budget a bit but you'll not regret.

bblost - sorry for the pitch but I do have an barely used Olympus XZ1 up for sale on the classifieds that would probably work wonderfully for your needs. It retails for around 22-24k here.

See the XZ1 review here - http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/OlympusXZ1

You need an Olympus !!!
This is the company which is known for the best colors for JPEGS straight off the camera.

If you are going to do post processing then only go for Panasonics. The JPEG's straight from the camera have a bluish tint.

About other brands I do not know.

Colleague of mine is making his first trip abroad. He needs a digicam. Budget is max Rs. 20K

I thought about the Panny FZ60.
http://www.dpreview.com/products/pan...asonic_dmcfz60
how much does it retail for in India?

Other options are the Fuji 30HS, Sony HX200V, Canon SX40 etc...

It is a general purpose camera but he will do lots of industrial indoor photography (visiting foundries and factories).

I assume something with 28-400mm lens with a f2.8-5.6 lens would suit best. What about the Panasonic FZ47, Canon SX260 or Sony HX20V found here.

I have never heard of the Fuji HS25. Is this a relaible camera?

Hi,
Im looking for a video Full HD recorder. this would be used to shoot short interviews or capture marketing events. this device has to be handy enough, should have external mic input, so that person shooting maybe away from subject, and mic can be near to subject, via mic cable. resolution for still image is not any criteria. Budget from 10K to 15K.

any pointers ? thanks in advance.

Go for Panasonic FZ200.
Its a constant aperture 2.8 through out the zoom range.

Also if I am right it has those C1 and C2 modes on the mode dial. Very useful if you want to dial in your settings and save them. Then if you want to use them just choose C1 or C2 on mode dial.

It retails for 34k on Flipkart (Pricey @#@^%)
Ebay has offers starting from 28k something.

Hi Pranav,

You can go for canon ixus s6300 . It retails for about 10k in India. Awesome low-light pictures. Full hd video recording, wide angle lens, 10 X optical zoom and dual stereo mic for better sound recording. I can vouch for it

Default Camera experts - please advise

I am looking for guidance from people that are up to date with the latest in cameras, for specific requirements.

I am looking for a camera with a fixed lens, wide angle of at least 35 mm, preferably 28mm, as defined in the old 35mm film SLR days. With low light capability, so the maximum aperture should be at least 1.8, and 1.4 would be nice.

Quality optics, and enough megapixels to allow me to crop pictures later, and then turn them into up to 10"x15" prints, without losing resolution. I don't want a zoom, for the inevitable compromise in picture quality, and cropping at home is so simple now on the computer, that I don't need the optical zoom, its weight, bulk or cost.

Ability to take a dedicated external flash, for better flash pictures than those with the built in flash.

And as small as possible, so, preferably not a DSLR.

Thanks in advance.

I am not a camera expert at all. But check out the Sony Nex series DSLRs. They are very compact without the lens
