Thanks KB100 for the advice. 1TB for Rs.5100 - that's great. I really won't have that much data, but this is a steal. Will check out the IT hub here in Delhi at Nehru Place. Am wary about the sellers over there though. Any Delhiite can recommend a shop/person over there whom they personally know - that would take care of lot of headache for me.

Bought a 1TB Seagate Free Agent USB external HDD (7200 rpm) for Rs.5300 with 5 years manufacturer warranty from Nehru place. This one requires external power source, but since I had to backup data from my desktop only, it serves my purpose. Thanks KB100 for the advice.

You are welcome Jessie!

I just got mine swapped for a 1TB Western Digital My Book 'Home' Edition. (Rs. 6,650 + 4% VAT)

This comes with USB, Firewire400, and eSata. More than all that this comes with the WD backup software - which looks like one of the few that allws incremental backups. So hook the HD up - and it'll automatically backup all the files that has changed since the last backup! Just what I wanted.

Have the prices for Seagate FreeAgent 1TB USB drives increased these days ? I called a couple of dealers (including a wholesaler) and they all wanted between 6000-6400 rupees for one.
Will it be better to buy online instead, as they seemed to priced between 5.8-6K.

WD has released My Passport Essential SE 1TB portable HDD.

These are 2.5" drives and use only USB. No external power required. Though I feel it will be really costly (probably 15K! )
