There are even cheaper HDs available around, but WD passport models are an eye candy and they have an unbeatable reputation.

3" HDD would require external power supply. Not exactly a portable solution

Correct!

Im looking for a portable HDD (even 120gb is fine) but it has to be a 4200 RPM drive and preferably a 1.5" - 1.8" casing.

Any ideas

I am not much aware of the 1.8" space, however I recently purchased a 160GB WD SATA 2.5" drive. While 2.5" drives come in higher capacities too, the SATA ones are rarer, and my Dell needed a SATA. I also purcased a 11$ SATA casing to use along with my old HDD.
You can look at such a combo.

Any particular reason behind 4200 rpm.

Danke Tanveer. I assume the 2.5" your talking about is 5400rpm spec.

Since we are on the topic of backups, I highly recommend the "SecondCopy" backup software. Damn user friendly and works like a charm.

Generally speed of harddrive plays major bottle neck. Always try to go for 7200RPM. Very few USB powered harddrive have it.

Your right most are 5400. Imagine I was hunting for a 4200

It would prove futile if it was your primary HDD. For storage purposes I guess its no biggie.
