SQ MP3 Players

Hi guys,

I am looking for a portable MP3 player below 5K with good sound quality. I will be using Koss porta pro / sennheiser PX100 with it.

Disk space isn't a criteria, something as small as 1-2 GB with no big screen would also do.. the only criteria is Sound Quality...

Hoping to get some quick replies from audiophiles on this forum..

Ipod shuffle (costing <5K) is supposed to be best in SQ among all Ipods.
And Ipods in general are supposed to be among the best in SQ.

Iv to buy an mp3 as a Birthday gift for my brother. Not keen on iPod since I own one myself.

Whats good in the 10-12k range? Creative Zen seems nice !

I did a demo of the creative and ipod shuffle and found the SQ of creative to be better. I got the 1GB version for 70$ in 2006.
But then earphones make a big difference. I recently got creative in ear phones for around 820rs and the sound quality is simply wonderful.

See if you can find iRiver or Cowon players in that range. They will have better SQ than ipods or creatives. Rockbox'ed Sansa players also are said to have good SQ.

Else Creative Zen stone should make for a decent budget player.

gosh i have the same combo

creative player +in ear earphones ep-635.
The sound quality is way above the rest.
Not to mention the great noise cancellation that comes with the EP series.

Not sure if iRiver is available in Bangalore. Even if it is I believe its expensive.

I need to go out an buy this tomorrow, if Creative has nothing in the 8-16gb range I guess its iPod then :(

12.5k can actually get you an ipod touch.

Look for the Zen (no plus, vision or anything - just Zen). comes in 8, 16 and 32GB with an option to expand the capacity using an SD card. Nice little player.

Says who? In actuality, the consensus is that iPods are supposed to have lower SQ than Creative, iRiver, Cowon etc. That's not to say that they have bad SQ - just not as good as others.

Kindly read carefully: I said best among all IPods and not best among all PMPs.
