AMD doesnt heat up or anything.
I would say this is a more balanced combo.
Though Intel is faster in CPUs, AMD still feels snappier because of the efficient Hypertransport bus and IMC ( Internal Memory Controller)
ishotmydog, if ur on a tight budget, i suggest you stick to a 4200+. Proc prices keep falling. if you could spend something like 2750 rupees on a fairly good proc like the 4200+, a year from now the phenom prices would have fallen, you can replace a phenom without worrying about the price you paid for your first processor!

Anyway if the price difference between the 4200+ and a 5000+ is more than Rs.2000, pls invest on the RAM.

Wait for the 780G if you have to, its going to be a fantastic board. HD content was played on the Sempron on the board! Its amazing.

Forget the 690G.this one is way better.

Just got a AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ with Nvidia GeForce 6150SE in a slim case, roughly size of a VCR.

With Ubuntu 7.1 Gutsy Gibbon running on it, life is so much better now.

Go AMD!!! Go Ubuntu!!!

Any one there loves AMD + ubuntu? I'm looking for a motherboard & processor combo; want recommendations. I had similar configuration but got burned by extra voltage surge from rj45 telephone socket. unfortunately the LAN card was integrated. I'd like to keep the specifications for a mediocre setup within 8-9K. would like to extract some decent graphics without graphics card and wants applications to be butter smooth. To be used by parents for web browsing. Occasionally I might heat it up as well.

Do you already have a "box" and just want to change the CPU? or are you planning to build a full desktop computer.

For web browsing.. raspberry pi is all you need Costs 5K max with accessories.

I know, but my use is more than that. I want to render/low level edit of photos, install multiple OS ...

I have a box but as mentioned, the unit is detected to have faulty MB & hence the up gradation. There could be a SMPS replacement too.

The AMD APU's are the way to go if you have a budget constraint. If you can spend more, even as much as an Intel 6th gen i3 paired with a dedicated GPU, it will be faster.

Whats up with the Skylake builds, has anyone built one here? There were reports of random freeze. Is it solved?
