Friends, I need help with a 2G iphone version.

The phone is unlocked and works absolutely great with my wifey's SIM card but says "SIM Not there or something" when I use my SIM card. I am no gadget geek so don't understand what the issue is.

PS: Both of the SIM are airtel -- if that helps :-)

Any pointers??

Put your sim card and try switching OFF and ON completely, most of the times this helps. Ensure you are plonking IN the sim in the right direction

Done that a zillion times with no results -- with SIM in the right direction etc

Should I go in for a new replacement SIM (with same number) and see if it works or should I go to these lock/unlock shops and get it checked there.

Since both the sims are airtel the issue is not with the phone i guess and it seems to be unlocked. Is it possible for you to try a 3 sim card, just in case?? If it works then its your SIM card issue.

Clean the SIM with a dry soft cloth and reinsert it. should work.

Can you type in exactly what message comes up? Does it say No SIM Inserted or does it say something else?

If it says, No SIM Inserted or something to that effect, just get your SIM change FOC from Airtel

The phone has been working perfectly for months with my wifey's SIM. And my SIM works fine in all other phones but this crap iphone. Will try some other SIM's also to verify the issue.

I have cleaned and even tried Vaastu, Pooja Paath while inserting the SIM. Nothing helps :-)

It says "No SIM Inserted". Will get the SIM changed

yeah that may be the thing, my original sim which was taken close to a decade back had similar issue with a nokia handset, luckily Airtel decided to replace it with new 128k sim or something free of charge Try replacing the Sim you should be fine and will get a bigger memory for the Sim also.

That price must be the initial grey market price. Even when the iphone 2G was just launched, this was the price.
Officially the price should be 32000 and 38000 for 16 and 32GB when launched by Vodafone and Airtel.

That's weird since Apple Store is not allowed to sell iPhones in India due to Apple's tie up with Vodafone and Airtel.

Either this particular Apple Store is not an official Apple Retailer or they are slyly selling them.

Also, are these officially unlocked or jailbroken?
