Default Satguide Maps; Gurgaon - Sambhar Lake - Ajmer - Jodhpur - Gurgaon

With reference to the above trip, (about which a thread is there in the Travelogue section) that I undertook recently, this was the first
time I was using the latest GPS maps for my Garmin from Satguide that covers 404 cities and has 16L POIs.

I can only comment on the route that I took and the cities that were visited enroute. The map is accurate to the last dot and covers the cities of Jaipur, Ajmer & Jodhpur in detail.

Though I know the layout of Jodhpur quite well, I decided to let the GPS do the navigation for me this time to check out the efficacy of the map. Not for once it wavered from point to point and rather gave me an alternate shorter route to one destination that is a must visit for me in Jodhpur.

On my return a portion of NH8 before Ajmer was closed due to some major Rly work and all traffic was being diverted via Nasirabad on NH79. The GPS immediately re-calculated and set course very correctly till we joined NH8 again.

Overall, pretty satisfied with its performance and hope the other cities too are equally mapped in detail.

I would request other users of this latest Satguide map in cities other than Delhi/NCR to post their experiences and also any outstation drive if
they have done after getting this map.

I read somewhere today that MapMyIndia has launched a mobile version of the Sygic navigation system for a one time cost of Rs 2490. Seems like a good option for mobile phones. Anyone has any idea on the effectiveness of this product?

Sygic is a good option for those with Symbian phones.

For WM phone users the normal MMI software works fine (the Mireo/Miomap based one) but you could install Sygic McGuider if you wanted to..

An effective Sat NAV has two components.
The Maps and the GPS receiver.
My first Sat Nav in india was on HTC P3400 which was ok in delhi but completely useless in Chennai (due to tree cover).

My present combination is the best. I found, with tree cover the DR (Dead Reckoning) calculation of Garmin was the best so i bought one in UK and loaded it with MapMyIndia maps.

Following are my results in brief, giving accuracy:
Chennai: 90% (Catipara junction not on the maps)
Chennai -> Ooty: 100% we found new routes and reduced our travel time by 2 Hrs!
Ooty -> Bangalore: 100% we took the route via Coimbatore.
Bangalore: 100% Even had all the one-ways!
Delhi: 100% there is nothing i havenít found via my SatNav. I just take the diversions and it recalculates a new route.
Gurgaon: 100% has every business in Udyog vihar.
Noida: 70% does not have all business and sector 18 was all wrong.
Faridabad: 60% got lost trying to get to sector 29.
Gurgaon -> Chandigarh: 100% Perfect.
Gurgaon-> Adampur: 100% Perfect had only main roads of Adampur. Even found me the nearest McDonalds en-route.

Anybody using garmin+satguide maps ?
I have ordered Garmin205w through my friend in US. Now need to get map. MMI looks costly when compared to satguide. is there anything extra that they offer to justify the difference?

That is exactly what I have. 205W + Satguide. Works just fine. Even I could not justify 7K price for MMI. Only issue is that you need to go around hacks to get the maps loaded on to your PC.

My requirement is a simple and basic GPS without Bluetooth. I ordered for MapmyIndia Lx130 navigator costing Rs 11,990/- online using my debit card on Wednesday [9.12.2009] afternoon. Yesterday [10.12.2009] evening, I received it from the courier. I am really impressed at the fast service. Last night, I charged it fully for 8 hours as specfied in the user manual. When I switched it on today morning while standing on my open terrace, the satellite connectivity was established within a few minutes. I shall post a detailed review after using it on-road.

Congrats on your new buy. I thought the cold start with the sirf chip is "less than a minute". Correct me if I am wrong.

Eagerly waiting for your detailed review.

1st time when you open it in box and try to lock satellites, it will take more time. It might take 10-20 mins to lock for 1st time. Then after 1st lock for cold start it will take less than 1 mins or bit more depending on places and satellites available.

@shamanth

As we have been talking about MMI VX140
recently I have ordered one through Autoworld and it got delivered to me
on 3rd Dec. While opening the package, I found the LCD screen of the device has got a 'V' shape crack and may be because of the impact the touchscreen is not 100% operational i.e some keys are wrongly functioning.

I have spoken to Autoworld (also sent them email) but they says that they are only dealers and MMI will have to do something. Whereas MMI says since I purchased this through Autoworld, they are not responsible.

The product got damaged in transit (autoworld sent it via speed post).

Alternatively, MMI asking to pay around Rs.3500 to replace the LCD.

I dont know what is going to be the final result ?

Simple dont put in ebay as delivered and raise a dispute in ebay, telling product was delivered damaged. Money wont be released to them. And if they dont get it replaced, ebay will refund full money back to you. Dont worry ebay has strong protection policy to protect customer.
