Any idea what this folder is in my C drive? - Team-BHP

C:\Documents and Settings\Deepak\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Google Desktop\10cb9cdd3a9c

I get a message saying that my C drive is running short of space. Now I have 20GB there and I dont use it for anything other than OS and apps. When I go thru folder by folder I find that the above folder is 3GB.

Any ideas on what it is? and whether I can safely delete the contents?

Thanks for any help guys.

Looks Google search index file. If you delete you can't search your desktop.

BTW, do you find Google Desktop Search useful?

Hi Deepak, Google Desktop is a waste of software at present, it’s still in testing phases and would suggest you to uninstall it, and it will launch some toolbars in your IE too. Once it’s completely updated and Vista is stabilized then you can use the Google desktop, it was used for the users to have a Sidebar like what vista has got built in it, it might come with the cool features, but it will eat up lot of space. Check out Inside Google Desktop

No index does not mean not being able to do a search. You can still do a search - but it will run through the contents again.

Google desktop is still not allowed in many security-conscious organizations.

I was using Google Desktop Search, until I found this - Copernic Desktop Search Copernic Desktop Search - Home Edition - The Search Engine for Your PC

GDS now looks primitive. Highly recommeded.

Google's perennial beta's!!!! Seems like the index file, as pointed out. No issues with deleting it. The app will again create the index the next time you run it though.

Google desktop search is utter crap.

Use the Yahoo desktop search - older version that was built on X1 platform.
Simply the best free desktop search EVER.

Unfortunately yahoo pulled the plug, and came up with their own beta version (which is similar to Google).

Get hold of copernic if you can't get the old yahoo desktop search. (I have the installer for old YDS - PM if you want.)

And for god's sake! Please REMOVE that Google desktop search ASAP!

You can open Google desktop and ask it to use a drive different from c: to store index files.
