Onida does not manufacture anything in that unit. The entire unit is imported from some company in china & labelled as Onida here. This is true for many of our household brand names including TATA ka AC, VOLTAS.

Well Voltas does make it's own compressors or atleast they used to until very recent past. The China move was a recent phenomenon. SO would it be prudent to compare between the two ?

We cannot compare previous models with the present , can we ? At present, I am not sure if they are still making compressors, but they sure are importing the unit from china.

yes, they have outsourced atleast part of their production to China. Last year, I bought a .85 ton window/AC from Voltas and the set was manufactured in China. Yet, we have not encountered any problems with it yet.

Almost everything is now a days made in china.... everything. So as long as the technology is Voltas I have no problem if its made in India or China. Manufacturing something in china doesnt makes it 'chinese'

Thanks esteem_lover for the reply. There is another important advantage of multi split. Say you buy a 2-ton multi split AC and fit one indoor unit in bedroom and other in Hall. If both units are on, then in each room cooling would be 1 ton.

Now if one of the indoor units is off (say at night the Hall one) the bedroom unit tonnage is no longer 1 Ton but increases to 1.5T though not 2T. This I remember reading in the specs.

So as such with same initial of approx 2 - 1T ACs effectively I will get more tonnage if one of the unit will be always off. Does this make any sense?

well, take a look at this & tell me again. The voltas is in my office & the Onida is at home.

I don't mind buying an Intel processor made in china as it is made in an Intel factory only & not outsourced. In this case as is with most home appliances, it has become a routine for them to import a generic make & brand them in India.

Absolutely. Godrej, Videocon, Onida & now Voltas, there are many more. This is a lot more lucrative.

I am not opposing anybody here but ti be very frank it is not Fair to compare Brand Onida with Brand Voltas

As Onida is geberal consumer brand which manufacture and sell all sorts of things. While Voltas is Brand formed by TATA and Volkart Brothers somehwere around 1950 and it has developed it own technlogy in various electrical and industrial fields , and refrigeration is one of there CORE Bussiness

When there is price war between brands then they might have to import amny components to bring down the cost and I think this is what Might be happening ihere

About compressors what I know is very few comanies( mainly two ) manufacture them ( I think Tecumesh is one of them ) and most other brands use them But Ac has got many things beside the compressor and whole things need to be put together make a product . infact I have read many times that Voltas is OEM supplier of many componets.

This hold true to many other things Like TV . Not evena single brand even SONY can say that they manufacture their Indigenius TV sets as most of the components are sourced by all the manufactures including Major components like Screen but still branding is different and has value attached to them Just like Swift using Fiat 1.3 Multijet and may be many more cars will be using it but still indivdual branding still holds good.

It just crossed my mind so I wrote no Inetntion to oppose anybody

Thanks

Jatinder Singh

Google for air conditioning capacity calculator. You need to know height of room as well.

Cooling calculator air conditioning should tell you what cooling load you need.

you would need a 1.5 Tonner. I have a Hitachi Ace Split which works well at 40 Degree also. The max it covers is a 190sqft rooom. Have a look.
