Hello Khoj,

This is for your kind information that I have checked the AC Socket but its absolutely normal and today morning as well when I entered the room smelled the air coming out of the AC, I found that it was having a false odor.
Kindly advice shall I get it checked thoroughly or is it due to the humid environment. Also FYI the cooling is normal and it really performs well even in dry as well as humid summers temperature ranging 30 to 45+.

The drain is clogged. Check whether the water generated due to to humidity is flowing out or collecting in the AC cabinet. If possible disconnect the water pipe from the unit and flush it clean. Else call a mechanic who will do it for you.

Is it due to the gas leakage or some bacteria issue in the AC ?
Its a 1.5 ton LG ac 5.5 years old and the gas was re-filled previous year only.

Most probably it is due to bacterial infestation. This is normally on the filter. Check the filter, if it is dirty, clean it thoroughly. If it is clean, then the inside passages may be infested. Best get a AC mechanic and get the Ac thoroughly cleaned. As a temporary measure clean the filter and spray room freshener on it.

One thing I have learned is that the mechanics tend to charge the same amount irrespective of the time spent. So now a days if there is a any problem with my AC, I just call then for servicing. They clean the AC inside out and set right any small fault. The advantage is that if I have to pay, I might as well get it serviced.

Have been hearing good things about Panasonic installation/service. No idea on Daikin.
What about quality of compressor, condenser, need for stabiliser, etc.

Please advise.
I have installed this series of Panasonic recently, and am Very Happy with the perfomance and effiency. My Panasonics are all[1.00, 1.50, 2.00 tons] giving me a grill temperature of 7.5 to 8.5*C after 15 minutes of startup.

Question Re: Which home/office AC (air conditioner) to buy ?

Hello Team,

I have one query and would be really appreciate a detailed reply to this.Since we are having two 1.5 ton LG window ac purchased in June 2005 and may be they will serve a summer or two or may be even longer.

Now since these AC are mostly used in the night time and rarely in the day time being installed in the two bed rooms mine and my parents.Area of both the room is less than 140 sq. ft. each. And also the location is the first floor.with second floor built up.No direct sun light is falling on any of the walls.

Would it be advisable to go for two 1 ton Ac for each room and at times of power failure in night run on generator set. Can I run both on a 5 KV or 10 KV DG set because as per my calculations the load of each Ac is 1.2 KW.
Also I am keen to replace the Ac in my parents room since its almost in the last stage of its life cycle.

Kindly advice.

If you want to run the AC on generators (and even otherwise for lower power bill), get the Inverter types. They consume less "running" current and as they do not start-and-stop like other AC, no provision for starting current is required. In fact some of the higher end models have a "soft start", that is the starting current is increased slowly as the AC "speeds up" so that the starting current remains within the running current range.

As you have noticed the Electricity charges in Delhi are going to go up, and will do so monotonically in future, hence and increase in efficiency (and decrease in power) will always be beneficial.

With Inverter type you can install higher rating with practically no penalty, as the AC will slow down to cater to your load, and higher capacity will help when the temperatures are really high.

Thank you very much sir.
Have been hearing similar 'very happy' feedback for Panasonic from many people, whether it's an Econ Pearl, Sapphire or Inverter Silver.

Feeling a lil busted though.

Was expecting the Daikin FT35G could be had for 27K-28K.
So went searching around the same mark.

Here are the prices i have got till now-
Panasonic econ Inverter Silver- quoted 33K + installation iirc.
Panasonic Pearl 1 ton (3Star,2.85 COP, 9.8 EER, without Inverter, 5.4A, 41/30 dB, ...) - quoted 25K; now 22.5K with installation
Panasonic Sapphire 1 ton (5Star, 3.17 COP, 10.8 EER, without Inverter, 4.9A, 41/29 dB, ...)- now 27.5K with installation

Daikin FTE35 1 ton (2.64 COP, calculated EER 9.01, without Inverter, 5.6A, 39/31 dB, ...)- quoted 29.5K; now 25K with installation
Daikin FT35G series not available or not in stock or something.

So Panasonic or Daikin?

Also since i need AC in 2 rooms that are side-by-side, should i consider multi-split ?

Update: Please note change in prices.
Mostly getting 2x Panasonic Pearl 1 ton or 2x Daikin FTE35. Kindly suggest which?
Are the prices ok?

Panasonic Pearl as it has better performance numbers against it and with a saving of 1K it is a no brainer.

In all the logic he gave, the technician failed to account for the kitchen heat load and the fact that more people present in a room mean more tonnage. Quite possibly you will also have some sort of exhaust running in the kitchen.
You definitely need 3 tons.
Anup, thanks for the good tip.

i decided to go for 2 x 1.5 tons. 3 ton seems the perfect tonnage required. Last thing i want after installing an inadequate tonnage AC is that it's not cooling properly...

guys,

Here i'm stuck a little. The living room will see a usage of only 4-5 hr every other day. Hence i wanted to go for a 1 x 1.5 heat & cool + 1 x 1.5 ton 3 star AC.

Now Daikin Heat & cool model looks very different from all its other models. Infact Dakin Heat & cool Inverter, Regular inverter, G series, E series all look identical expect fot the Heat & Cool.

Now i cant have 2 different looking units in the living room. Mom would not approve it and it'll look very funny.

Hence only option is to look at Inverter Heat & Cool + 3 star. But the Inverter heat and cool has a premium if Rs. 12000 and since the usage is only 4-5 hrs every other day it's not making sense to go for this option.

Option 2

To go for another brand Heat & Cool + 3 star. Which other brands in India offer Heat & Cool models ?

Regards,

Rana

None of the good things in life ever make sense on their own. Add the perceived benefits and it is a different story.

Deduct the cost of buying a suitable heater or two and things will start to look better. Factor in the floor space they will take away, dial in the meddlesome wires that may trip people plus the fact that their colour/finish may clash with your living room decor and suddenly those Daikins will make a lot of sense.

I think General might have something as would Toshiba and Sanyo. With the inverters and especially with the heat pump however, I would go with Daikin given their excellent service back up.

khoj, yes your comments above are spot on. Sometimes we do need to look at the Bigger Picture.

I'll go for Daikin as i'm quite happy with the Inverter models i put in my bedrooms recently.

Thanks for showing me the bigger picture.

I remember a very learned man once telling me that Invertor models are not suited to our power supply. I forget the exact reasons, but it had something to do with our Thermal power which has some waves or spikes or something which does not go well with the invertor system/circuit, and some people have faced problems. I guess some experts[electrical] on this forum may be able to throw light on this

Anytime rana_kirti, Do post a snap or two of the machines once installed. Especially the ODU with the covers off, if you can manage to take some during install that is.

Do not worry Delhi gets Gas based power from Indraprastha and some place else within Delhi maybe it is Burari, Hydel power from Kosi and Nuclear power from Narora and Kota Rajdhani hai bhai

On a serious note the more technically inclined ones may want to explain to us lesser mortals. Though in my opinion once generated be it from any fuel source bijlee is bijlee. Once fed in to the grid the spikes etc are more a function of overdrawing from a stretched system and the ensuing pull/push that ensues. Anyhow, waiting to learn something new.

i'll put up the pics soon. :-) The ODU s were already with the covers on. I mean, they were just taken out of the box and installed on the roof.

Do you want me to open the outer case/covers and click pictures of the inside like the fan etc...?

not clear on that.
