Then this technician also went back on the pretext of coming back with the gas and never showed up and not picking up calls, nor his manager. Even the Hitachi service line is not responding.

The Guy who came in Feb filled up gas and charged me 1700 in warranty (got cheated). I'm sure this authorizedd service center would have re-imbursed the same gas filling amount from Hitachi too because I got an SMS from Hitachi saying you have been serviced and charged Rs 0. He charged me money (have the bill and service report) and also deliberately loosely fitted the flaring nut for it to leak.

It has been a bad experience going for Hitachi so far. I had high hopes and now regret my purchase decision. Hope Hitachi doesn't let me down.

That's a pretty nasty experience indeed!

Get a hold of Hitachi's Twitter handle and try posting there.
Additionally, need to check whether they have any escalation provision like nodal grievance manager or something similar.

I hope you realize that it is not Hitachi (Japanese principals) that is cheating you; it is our Indian brethren! And so it is with all the 'Chinese' goods sold in India. It is not that the Chinese are cheating you - they only supply what they are paid for and that choice is made by our brethren who go and negotiate these deals. The Chinese have mastered 'process control'; they can manufacture exactly what has been ordered, at any price point!

That's not correct entirely.

If Hitachi is selling its products, making money, promising a warranty and service then it has to take care of the dealer and service network as well.

Chinese stuff that gets sold without a warranty does not come with such promises.

Warranty is promised by the manufacturer, not the dealer.

Almost all Japanese companies barring a few like Sony and Panasonic have failed in India mainly due to the horrible after-sales service. The Koreans ensured they kept the dealer and service network on a tight leash while the Japs didn't care about the customers. Look at Akai, Sanyo, Sansui, Sony, Sharp etc. Hitachi and Daikin make awesome ACs but their service is terrible. You will never get spare parts easily, there's no oversight on the so called engineers and everything is overpriced. Hitachi is the worst. I bought a brand new Hitachi and the authorized installer was a fraud. Nothing was done properly and charged more than the SMS I received a day later. I complained to Hitachi and it's been 6 months.........

Buy a Samsung / LG if you care about peace of mind. Buy a Hitachi if you want to roll the dice and hope it never needs servicing.

Shifted from Hitachi to Panasonic for my latest buy. Got 2 x Panasonic 1.5 TR 5 Star rated Window ACs yesterday. Model CW-TC1817YA; Manufactured April 2017; MRP 35100/-; Got net for 29000/-each with installation. Sold my 2 old Napoleon units on OLX for 18500/-. Excellent deal overall. And I must say that the build quality of this AC is better than my twin blower Hitachi. Power wattage is also lower at 1480W compared to the 1650W of the Hitachi. All copper units inside out.

@dkaile; I think you are onto the better thing. I know what will be my next Widow source. Incidentally, is it still R22 or some change there. Why I am asking is that on my Daikin R410a inverter split, the gas leaked out in about three years. Remember R410a is at about 2.5x pressure as R22, so obviously any lead shows up faster. As Daikin have changed their policy and the dealers are only allowed to maintain for one year, I went to an independent. He is an IIT chap and does a good job. So I managed to get it fixed for 2k.

Been using the newly installed AC for a couple of weekends now, what I observe is that the temperature set in the morning (25*C) is chilling in the day while at night, it feels inadequate. I have to set it down by a degree or two to get the same level of comfort at night.

Never felt this way in a Window AC. And it's not like Chennai suddenly becomes Ooty at night. We still have the same humidity and heat

Strange.

Maybe the window AC was less accurate in controlling the temperature. A room temperature meter is the only way to find out the truth.

Don't mean to ask the obvious but do you use thick comforters or blankets at bedtime? We do, and as a result have to keep the temperature at about 22 or so for a comfortable night's sleep.

I use the same blanket in the morning and night as well. Not the comforter one but the normal Erode wala blankets. Isn't much thick but thicker than a bedspread.

24*C seems a good fit for the night now while it is greatly chilling in the morning. Or maybe I am just seeing things as it is a new machine and I am very much closely monitoring it because it is new and a first for me

on these acs there is a function to increase the temperature by a couple of degrees over time. I forget what it is called but if you start off at 22, after a certain amount of time it will go to 23, 24 etc. I think this should work for you. I believe this is where the inverter acs have an edge that they maintain a more even temperature control than the regular ones. Mine are non-inverter too and it does get chill after 6-8 hrs of operation even in this Chennai heat. Maybe I should try the stepped temperature setting too.

Guys generally speaking right now, which are the best brands to go for in selecting 1.5/1.8 ton units?

I've head Daikin were one of the best apart from Carrier/iGeneral? Is that still the case? Also some pointers would be appreciated on the aspect of copper units vs the aluminium ones used by various brands

It's called the 'Sleep' function I think. I had it with the Whirlpoo increase a *C every hour and be 2*C greater than what is set. No such luck here. There is however Econo cool in this AC which promises to give the 'perceived' temperature in the room even after increasing the temperature by 2*C.

Achieved by focusing the A/C on the people in the room. So that you are cooler and not necessarily the room as well. Will check it tonight.

Thank you for replying.
