Default Need Advise- DVD to iPhone 3G - Video Conversion

I just bought a iphone 3G and would like to convert a couple of DVD movies and copy to my iTunes. I believe the format to be converted to is Mpeg4. Is there a good software available to do this conversion and freeware too?

Thank you.

WinMenc is an excellent tool. It is freeware. It will help you rip from DVD as well as from DivX/Xvid files. You'll need to know the exact resolution you have to rip to, though (nearly all parameters will need to be entered, though there are a lot of presets available). You'll be able to find what suits you best after a few tries

I usually use WinMenc to rip DVDs for viewing on my E90 (also MP4) and it gives excellent results. I have a paid-for SW from Slysoft that does the same job, but I think WinMenc gives better results (speed-wise, file-size-wise, quality-wise and control-wise).

I'm posting from my phone right now, and will post the download link in a short while, if you'd like to try it out.

EDIT: You can download it from http://winmenc.blogspot.com
