Default SD card error! Help!

Just took out my camera to take a couple of pictures and it said "memory card error". Can't access the card to take or view any of my stored photo's or even format the card.

Is there anything I can do to repair this problem? Or is it gone for good?

Card Details:128MB Lexar SD card

The card may have shifted because of movement. Try taking it out and putting it back in again tightly

Remove the card and re-insert it. Check whether the card is not read-only.
If you have any more problems, I think you should have a manual which can troubleshoot it.

Done the above already. Rebooted, taken out, cleaned, inserted back in. No luck. Tried another card and it works fine. Does this mean the card is wrecked?

Damn cheap taiwan crap!

lexar is a very good company in SD cards. i have a 256mb in mine as well. what you can do is if u have a card reader load it up in there and format from the pc itself then insert in the camera. if it works then format it first and start using it again. this should help most of the times. if it does not work and if u have paid for warranty u will get it replaced since they all come with 5 years. if u have a grey market one play around for a while. might just work. though if u have been dropping it often it tends to get messed too.

Hey Rtech,

Clean the contacts on the card.
Move the "read only" switch back and forth.
Then try it again.

If its still not working, try using the card in a computer SD drive or the likes.
If you cant even format it there...then youve got problems.

Lexar has a good warranty system and makes good quality stuff. If you just contact support staff and then mail the card to them they should send you a replacement. (thats the way it works in the states...have done it myself due to incompatibility of some SD cars with pocketpcs)

Try putting your card in a reader and run a program like NDD on it to check for bad sectors. If there are any, the card is gone. I just ended up with a small piece of plastic that was once a 512MB CF card........ Tried repartitioning it in windows and linux but the damn thing just refuses to work!

Grrr...cleaned the contact but still no luck.

Rehaan, card was bought in the grey market, so no warranty. Unless I post you the card and you send it to Lexar US asking for a replacement (sneeky sneeky)

Will try putting it in a reader as a last resort. Otherwise seems like its gonna be another useless plastic piece like mohit's!

It's times like these you miss the traditional film camera!

Rtech, always go in for warranty pieces and from proper dealers.

I've seen 512 MB Sony Memory Sticks being sold for 3000 at Irla. Fact is a 512 MB memory stick at the Sony Dealership costs around Rs 16000. If you compared the two cards, they are 99% identical, but they give away due to slight variations in the fonts of some letters.

The card I'm using is genuine. However, like anything electrical, it can malfunction at any time.
