5499 per ? Is this price per year/per month ? depending upon Usage?

Pretty steep, will come down in the coming future.

It's like the iPhone 3G... the USB device is capable of 3G, but will use the EDGE data network for now. Until vodafone starts 3G services in India.

It should work on the 3G networks abroad if you are roaming. At least that's what they say.

Its a bit like buying an iPhone 3G. You can buy the device, but that wont give you access to 3G services because there arent any.

Default 3G Mobile Internet Services - India

Any news on this topic? I saw a recent review on internet on mobile internet on the go devices. And the 3G offered by MTNL came out tops (the others being some handheld internet device which is making waves in the market and a regular Reliance data card).

Is anyone using 3G on MTNL in Delhi? Any news on when the other providers will get their hands on this? Its a fantastic service...but I dont understand why they launch in only *specific* areas. Does this have to do with satellites and towers and what not?

More here: MTNL 3G Jadoo Mobile Services

Are you referring to PocketSurfer2 offered by HCL when you mentioned the handheld net device ?

Emkay, yeah thats the one. Pocketsurfer. Pretty cool, but would rather stick with a full fledged smartphone like my p1i or an iphone.

I would have gone for the Psurfer if they were not binding us to a Telco. Ideally would have wanted a SIMless device which could connect onto my cellphone and use the GPRS. Their first product was such a one and was being sold till recently for Rs. 5000+ but it did not have GPS like the new one.

Unofficially yes. I use Photon+ in Chennai and I bought it only after being assured that most of Chennai have been covered by evdo towers. I get up to 1mbps during the day. Haven't tried it in the night yet.

3G? Hmmm, surely will be expensive for unlimited plans like most countries. I'll rather stay on GPRS with E-Series for business or N-series for Entertainment. Period.

P.S Currently on Airtel's Prepaid MO Plan with Nokia N95-1.

Unlimited is Rs.1500,
1GB is Rs.800 - followed by Rs.2 / MB
500MB is Rs.700 - followed by Rs.2 / MB

I am currently on the 1gb plan as they are offering double the download as free for the first two months. Means I will get 3GB download for Rs.800 for the first 60 days from the date of activation.

Default About TATA'S 3G

So its 1500 for unlimited and 800 for the cheapest 3G plan? Is it me or are these plans a tad expensive for an average mobile device which has LIMITED battery life?! I don't mind it if its an usb broadband type. I use Airtel's MO prepaid plan for checking emails, messengers and forums which is enough for my mobile and pc(data cable). Any serious downloading or data transfers, i'll rather buy a usb card.

P.S Edge is not even available outside metros till date. Still biased towards location-wise! Sigh.
