If you live in a metro, and if BSNL has started providing Evdo service in your metro, and if you don't roam (as in use it outside your metro), then no TATA or Reliance can beat that. Rs.550 p.m. Unlimited upload/download. And with 2.4mbps theoretical speed, and 1mbps actual street speed, it is a very good proposition.

A friend is going to buy a Psurfer 2 today. Will get the review ASAP. The features and the videos on youtube look good. One of the biggest advantages is the connectivity as it uses GPRS and not 3g or EDGE, so you will be able to use it at the same speed everywhere. And they claim 7 seconds to load any page using some compression algorithm, but will be able to confirm all of it once I get the review from him.

Not yet in Mumbai.

In some cities, EVDO cards are available from BSNL which come close to 3G in terms of speed and mobility.

OT

My MTNL SIM latched on to 3G for a few minutes last week. Looks like MTNL is testing 3G in suburbs.

You may get the MTNL 3G on the Western Express specifically near the Airport as they plan to introduce the services there and might be testing it out. It seems they are facing hurdles in South Mumbai because of the tall buildings all around.

I read somewhere that in Delhi their CMD has complained that some mysterious people are using their 3G frequency and testing their equipment disrupting MTNL services. Maybe some jealous private operator.

Yes these are quite step. That's why i said, waiting for the others to join the battle!

But i think if the speeds are good, it can serve as both your home as well as mobile net connection right?

I hope they start better than their DTH HD fiasco where they launched the HD service without any HD content.

Yup thats true and the speeds that i get in my 3G card is quite good, only issue is 3G coverage is patchy ie works in some parts of city, some part it drops to EDGE.
