Technically, you can install it on your home PC. But then, in legal terms, you are definitely breaking the law and also maybe a company policy by doing this.

No. But if Toshiba provides you with a free Windows 7 upgrade scheme then you can. Check it with Toshiba. Dell India offers such a scheme for computers bought between June 26, 2009 and December 31, 2009. Unfortunately for me i don't fall in that schme.

14000rpm, you have an upgrade offer from Toshiba if your laptop was purchased between June 26,2009 and January 31,2010 with preinstalled Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Business or Windows Vista Ultimate.

It's a shame about that nasty scrawl on the cover. Couldn't you send it back and ask for an undamaged one?

Who cares for the cover- for the first time in its lifetime, my home pc is going to be on a legal Microsoft OS!!!

Can I use the key written on the Microsoft Original sticker on the machine and then install the Vista Business on my home pc??
Legally No. The EULA requires you to not separate the OS and hardware. It specifically prohibits you from using the OS on different hardware. The reason given is that the OEM version is cheaper compared to retail one. If you happen to sell your PC, the OS goes along with it. You can not sell hardware alone. Technically, AFAIK, the key provided on the sticker is OEM specific and is not likely to work on any other hardware. Even if it works, activation is a big hurdle. So you may not be able to use it as 'original' OS.

Just received official info from the Windows7 team in our company that a pilot program to migrate to Windows7 starts today. The program involves upgrading 200 pilot machines running Windows XP Pro to Windows7 Enterprise. I have also signed up for this program but I am not sure how the pilot machines will be chosen. I hope I will be running Windows7 by the end of the week.

What's your machine's config? If it is something that can "barely run" Vista, then it will run Win7 comfortably

Received my pre-order copy of Windows 7 today. I will leave the current trial running for a month or so before installing the pucca version.

Will add experience as I go. But this slowness is not something that I am going to like!
Did you try it out in Virtual PC? or Virtual Box? Anyway, Windows 7 isn't slow.

I can see from your screen shots that pixel shading isn't working - you need to get it running in the real hardware than a virtual env. to see its full potential. Hardware acceleration may not work well in virtual env.

And of course 7 is way better than Vista in terms of performance, and may be even better than the boring XP!

I have installed Windows 7 on my home PC and it is running like a dream !!! No freezing and crashes so far. It has recognized all my devices. The new taskbar is the best thing about Windows 7. Nothing else new if you are moving from Vista. If you are moving from Win XP you will like it a lot better !!!
