Default Install Ubuntu on External HDD

Hi guys,
Does anyone know how to Install Ubuntu on External HDD and make it bootable via USB drive, also can we use one partition to be used in Windows XP and the other for Ubuntu

Yes. both the options are possible.

I have used partitions for xp and UBUNTU successfully.

But I think your BIOS needs to support the feature of external Harddrives. USB pendrives is an easier option though.
