True, aspire one netbook is meant for people with a proper PC at home and Office. This could fill the basic browsing needs (wired and wi-fi), messenger, voice chat, video chat (thanks to the built-in MIC and Camera). Mic and Video are decent enough for this price. Working on a professional level photo/video/music editing is almost out of question. Yes, another point is the 160 GB hard disk, which can act as a back up while formatting main PC.

Ram, have you partitioned the Hard Disk ? If you have done it, you might have defenitely used a full recovery mode for sure. Please reply.

Default Acer Aspire One, Samsung NC10 or Samsumg One?

What between them is the best off the lot? One that does what it's supposed to - web browsing, checking email, etc.

Any places in Mumbai where I might get a good deal?

For someone that has been used to Windows XP, how easy/difficult is it to use Linux?
The MRP difference between the Acer Aspire One with Linux and the other with XP is 3K.

10-Inch Netbook Faceoff

Samsung NC10 Vs Lenovo IdeaPad S10 Vs ASUS Eee PC 1000H Vs MSI Wind Vs HP Mini 10

What’s so special about the NC10 Special Edition?

Good one.

Seems Samsung is taking this seriously as they launched a Via powered 12 inched NC20.

Hope we more which also has support for 3G/sim too built in.

Edit:

"With ASUS' Eee PC 1000HE up for pre-order, it's clear that netbooks are ready to make the jump from Intel's lowly 1.6GHz Atom N270 to the suped-up 1.66GHz N280. In fact, Intel just confirmed shipments of its new Atom processor to PC makers. Now don't let us hear you bellyaching about that being a meager 0.06GHz jump -- the magic isn't in the clock but in the faster 667MHz (up from 533MHz) front-side bus and new GN40 chipset with hardware-based 720p video decoder. That easily bests the Atom N270 pairing with the customary 945GSE chipset without any increase in power consumption. Think about that when trying to make a 10-inch netbook choice between ASUS' Eee PC 1000HE (with new N280 proc and GN40 chipset) and Acer's new N270-based Aspire One. Then again, maybe you're waiting for the first netbook to ship with NVIDIA's Atom-based Ion platform with full 1080p playback? "

Now that clears my doubt about N280.

I personally feel that smaller is better for netbooks. Don't think there is any point in going for a 10 inch or 12 inch netbook. Should be a max of 9 inch and as light and small as possible, but that's my opinion.

There is a SUPERB looking Sony 8 inch netbook, costs 50k though.

Exactly, netbook is supposed to be less than 9 inch. If someone wants a 12 or more inch stuff, better opt for a proper laptop with higher features.

Installing XP on a Linux OS is easy as my acer vendor told me at the time of purchase. I do have an original version of XP Pro installed on my desktop, so I can use the same for my netbook too. So far I didnt find the need of it, happy with Linux without any complaints. Linux home screen might be bit offtrack to one who is used to Windows versions for long time.

With ease provided you have the drivers with you. Just download em of the Acer website.

PS: One think though - the service of Acer is pathetic. So if you are plannign to get one see if one is nearby. Stick to the Samsung or shell out a fortune for the Sony.

Why bother? Download Windows 7 Beta and install. I've installed 7 on my wife's Aspire One.

First off, I don't intend shelling out > 20K, which means that I am looking for something basic. So, all things considered, what's my best choice?

OK. So, I called an authorized Acer dealer, and was quoted 18.9K for the Linux model, and 20.4K for the XP.
What do you guys think?
