greatman thanks for the info. I'm having some used PC and memory infact, so the plan is not to spend! Why I started this at all was to utilize the parts and unused CPU.

Well, I shall keep the low cost Sempron in mind, when this works out, or puts me into a lot of trouble, I shall get some thing arranged like what you said.

Nope ,the card is not avaliable in ritchie street . I did try a lot for getting that card , but it was in vain . My best bet is bangalore and mercy does not have the card either . I checked out the mercy annanagar outlet as well .

@nitrous - I created the thread under the DIY thread, thought is more appropriate than any other section. Please suggest some other section if this is not right place. Well atleast it has got to something with the ICE in one's car! :P

Oh! it is pretty sad that a simple IDE card is not yet available in Ritchie street! where else would we go if it is not available in Chennai! Guess they call it with a different name or something, sommeone ought to have it.

If you show a picture, most of them would recognize it, rather than with the name!

This is too 'sophisticated' to be available in India - you will have to get it online somehow. Or look for a "card reader that fits in the floppy bay in the PC chassis" - usually has 2 USB ports along with the reader (multi-card).

But why the IDE version? Unless you are falling short of USB ports, you could have as well used one of the regular cheap card readers on USB(2.0).

DerAlte - certainly that is an option.
We thought the IDE version will be much efficient and tucked within the board.

Trulu speaking, there is a lot of them - small sized USB card reader @ Rs.100 or so to do this job.

Moreover, why the IDE because - it boots from the IDE and older PCs don't need to be bothered to update BIOS to boot from USB etc. Saves pain.

Nope , it wont work . Because the bios has to recogonise the USB drive and I dont think most of the old MB will be able to recogonise the board . ALso I do not think the old boards can recogonise more than 80 gb hdd . Any higher capacity hdd will not be recogonised . In some boards it might be 120gb also

Thanks Mod. This sounds to be the best suited section for the thread. Hope to get more inputs here.
