New 3G S has lot more features including 3 mp autofocus camera, faster processor and works. Apple so silently have slid in an upgrade without much fanfare. Wonder when 3G S at AT&T rates would come here in India under Airtel!

This is usually because telephone companies do a credit check before giving a connection. Some people with bad credit history do not qualify for a phone connection.

plus they need to be eligible for upgrade if they are on a existing connection or should be a qualifying new connection without deposit (for some stores)

The "contract" is perhaps a contract. You'll have to pay them more monies. Anyone outside US should only think about the contract free versions, unless their contact in the US will shell out the contract money themselves.

So iPhone for us, from US is still $600+.

I guess Vodafone and Airtel will begin discounting the current 3G iPhone stock to make way for the 3gS. Just hope they get it down soon enough. Have been waiting to upgrade my 2g iPhone for a while!

Any guesses how the 3gs would be priced here in India? Hoping it would be at par with the US rates

p.s. dont even mind a contract with Airtel / Vodafone with these rates

The 3GS would be priced at the same price as the current iPhone 3g ie around 30k for 16GB whereas the current iPhone 3G 8Gb would slip down to around 25k ... however the 3GS wont be launched until august, so dont expect any price cuts on the 3G yet

AT&T contracts are so costly I paid money to get out of it and go back to T-mobile. not to mention the horrible coverage I had in my area. over a contract period of 2 years they would earn 1600+ dollars from me.

PS: I got my W810i in return though.

Even the iphone 3gs looks the same? I saw pictures on the net somewhere, showing iphone more sleeker. Anyway that was a rumor then.
Even though 199$ for 3gs, it's only in US.
Am sure it will go around 35k in India. Wat do u think guys?
