I have donated my old desktop to a training institute which helps under privileged girls here in chennai. My Fil is part of the institute and hence the request came from him.

Anybody in chennai willing to donate, do let me know.

Guys, a friend is trying out a way to re-cycle old computer hardware, and needs a couple of PC's, monitors etc. Looking for something that needs to be disposed off - like the ones that are dead.

In case any one in Bangalore has any thing to donate, can you please ping me ?

Thanks !

Reviving a very old thread. Could not find a new thread on this topic. I have an old system Pentium III with 17 inch CRT monitor. Though it still runs Windows XP, but struggles to run any modern software or games. I don't intend to sell it but donate it. Since its old system and in just running condition, can't think of giving it to any NGO. I was thinking whether it would be useful for any ITI (Industrial Training Institute). Does anyone know of ITI in Pune who would be interested in taking old hardware for their lab study? Any other options I have?

I have this friend who runs a small computer training institute for the less fortunate. All my old and/or defunct hardware used to go to him by default for use in training purposes. But how do we actually dispose of IT waste with minimum adverse environmental effects? I quite liked how Nokia used to have this facility of dropping your old, defunct phones at their recycle points. Have no idea as to what they did with them afterwards, but seemed like a good initiative.

I am in a similar situation with my Samsung CRT monitor. I want someone to use it rather than giving it for scrap. I dont mind delivering it withing the city, to any organisations/institutes , provided they intend to use it.

I usually sell off old system to my Kabadiwalla. He sells the stuff (after repairs if needed) to needy persons in the villages.

There is a company called BluBirch started by a friend's husband. They re-furbish and re-utilize these old hardware things and convert them to useable items.

There is a startup firm in Chennai called Paperman that buys ewaste and newspapers and the amount from the sale gets either given to you or to your preference of an organization in list of charitable organizations they have tie ups with. I sold a lot of non working monitors and ups like that.

Good info. Had I known this would have sold my 19" CRT which was in good working condition to them. I gave it back to Samsung for recycling

Do they also take old hard disks?
